MANKATO, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams kicked off a busy week of competition on Wednesday, with CSP athletes competing at both the Stomper Open hosted by Minnesota State and the Dutch Spring Multi hosted by Central College.
Senior
Carter Krummen provided a major highlight for the Concordia men at the Stomper Open, breaking his personal record and hitting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a distance of 187' 3" in the hammer throw. With that distance, Krummen now ranks 37
th in Division II this season in the hammer throw.
Freshman
Fadel Johnson Jr. also logged a second-place finish in his outdoor debut at CSP, clearing 47' 8.5" in the triple jump.
Fellow freshman
Jayden Kuhlman grabbed another second-place tally for the Bears in the 400-meter, clocking a time of 49.69 seconds.
Senior
Dan Otto recorded a new season best in the discus throw, using a toss of 162' 7" to place third.
Sophomore
Cam Mata logged a new personal record in the outdoor long jump, clearing 23' 9" to place third and come within three inches of the school record. Mata also placed high in the 100-meter dash, coming in third place with a time of 10.81 seconds after clocking a time of 10.62 seconds in the preliminaries.
Senior
Maya Lavendusky tied as the top overall finisher for the CSP women in Mankato, placing second in the shot put with a distance of 41' 7.75".
Sophomore
Bernie Barnhardt also grabbed a second-place finish in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 173' 1".
Junior transfer
Sophia Crespo made her outdoor debut for Concordia, placing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.82 seconds.
Senior
Karlina Zimmerman clocked a season-low time of 59.68 seconds in the 400-meter, good for fifth place.
Through day one of two in Iowa, CSP's
Mehlayna Straub sits in first place in the women's heptathlon with 3190 points with four events completed. Straub finished first in both the high jump and the 200-meter dash, while placing second in both the 100-meter hurdles and the shot put. Her times in both the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter were new personal records.
Sophomore
Mina Nguyen sits not far behind in third place after day one with a total of 2521 points, with a third-place finish in the high jump, a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, and sixth-place finishes in the shot put and 200-meter. Her time in the 200-meter and distance in the shot put were both personal records.
In the men's decathlon, Concordia's
Jeffrey Odamtten sits in second place with 3642 points through the first five events after placing second in the shot put, third in the 400-meter, fourth in both the high jump and 100-meter, and sixth in the long jump. He set new personal records in both the 100-meter and the 400-meter.
Junior
Will Hugo wrapped up day one in sixth place with 3470 points. Hugo placed fourth in both the long jump and high jump, sixth in both the 100-meter and shot put, and 11
th in the 400-meter. His 100-meter time marked a new personal record.
Golden Bear athletes will continue competition this weekend at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday and the Minnesota State Open on Saturday. This story will be updated with final results from the Dutch Spring Multi following the meet's conclusion on Thursday.
