CSP softball shifts schedule, home opener now set for Friday against SMSU

Due to impending weather and field conditions the Golden Bears now host the Mustangs in their home opener.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul softball team's doubleheader with the St. Cloud State Huskies originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 has been postponed due to field conditions and rescheduled to Tuesday, April 21 at Carlander Field with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast CSP has moved their Sunday doubleheader with Sioux Falls to Saturday afternoon and shifted the doubleheader with Southwest Minnesota State from Saturday to Friday afternoon. 

The Golden Bears will now open their 2026 home slate Friday afternoon, April 10 against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs with start times set for 1 and 3 p.m. 

CSP will continue their home schedule with a doubleheader against the Sioux Falls Cougars on Saturday, April 10 with start times of 12 and 2 p.m. 

Last Time Out 
The Golden Bears went 1-3 over the weekend, dropping two games to Augustana on Friday and earning a split with Wayne State on Saturday. CSP is now 20-15 overall with a 9-3 record in NSIC play this season, the Golden Bears currently sit in a three-way tie for third place in the conference. 

On Friday the Golden Bears dropped both games of the doubleheader to the Vikings, falling 8-0 in six innings in game one. In game two CSP led 5-3 in the seventh after Riley Rosenthal launched her first home run of the season, but the VIkings rallied in their final turn at the plate winning on a walkoff three-run homer, 6-5.

Riley Rosenthal led the way for CSP at the plate, going 4-for-7 across both games, with a home run and one RBI. Ava Blake went 2-for-2 in game one and Alexis Monty posted a 2-for-4 in game two of the doubleheader. 

Emmy Bowne got the start in game one and took the loss after giving up six earned runs on 11 hits to fall to 8-7 on the season. Tatum Dunlavy took the circle in game two and tossed 4.2 innings giving up three earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout. 

Saturday's doubleheader saw CSP earn a split with the Wildcats, losing game one 3-0. The Golden Bears got the better of the Wildcats in another low scoring affair in game two, winning 1-0 after a Ava Blake sac fly to center plated the game's only run. 

Tatum Dunlavy tossed a complete game shutout to secure the one run win, tossing 7.0 innings, giving up five hits and striking out three Wayne batters. Emmy Bowne started game one and tossed 6.0 innings giving up two earned runs on five hits.

Riley Rosenthal put together another strong day at the plate, going 3-for-6 and scoring the game's only run in game two. Ava Blake tripled in game one and came up with the sacrifice fly and RBI in game two. 

Golden Bears by the Numbers
Riley Rosenthal leads the Golden Bears in average this season, batting .353 with a .379 on-base percentage and a .445 slugging percentage. Rosenthal clubbed her first home run of the season over the weekend, she also smacked four doubles, two triples with 13 RBI, while stealing eight bases in eight attempts. 

Alexis Monty leads the team with a .929 OPS, batting .330, with a team leading .444 OBP and a .485 slugging percentage. Monty is tied for the team lead in doubles with seven, while ranking ninth in the NSIC with three triples, while also ranking ninth in the conference with 18 walks. The junior shortstop is sixth in the NSIC in stolen bases with 14 in 17 attempts. 

Ava Blake has a .326/.404/.449 slash line this season, while driving in 14 runs. Blake also has seven doubles and two triples, while stealing four bases. Lily Burke is second in the NSIC with 16 stolen bases in 17 attempts this season. 

Danni Sharum leads the team with 17 RBI this season, while also leading the team with two home runs. Nora Brandt has a .272/.410/.361 slash line this season, while driving in 15 runs. 

In the circle, Tatum Dunlavy leads the Golden Bears with a 2.87 ERA and a 8-5 record in 17 starts. Dunalvy has tossed five complete games this season, including one complete game shutout with 40 strikeouts in 83.0 innings pitched. 

Emmy Bowne has a 8-8 record in 18 starts this season, with a 3.45 ERA, white ranking fourth in the NSIC with 11 complete games and ninth in innings pitched with 101.1. Bowne leads the team with 49 strikeouts to 30 walks, leading the team with a 1.9 K/BB ratio. 

Abi Carter has made 15 appearances in relief for CSP this season, to the tune of a 1.74 ERA, good for ninth in the NSIC, while ranking third in the conference with two saves. Carter has collected 16 punchouts in 40.1 innings pitched, while holding opponents to a team low .253 average. 

This season the Golden Bears are 8-5 in contests decided by one run, while also posting a 14-5 record when holding opponents to three runs or fewer. When the Golden Bears score the games first run this season they are 13-3, while holding a record of 19-1 when leading after two innings. 

Last season the Golden Bears posted an 11-1 record at Carlander Field, winning each of their first 11 home contests. 

Southwest Minnesota State, Friday, April 9 - 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Series Record: CSP 29, SMSU 33 
The Golden Bears and Mustangs have played each other 62 times dating back to the year 2000, in the time SMSU has had the upper hand winning 33 of those matchups. Both teams have split the season series in each of the past five seasons, with the Mustangs taking game one of the doubleheader 5-3 last season, before the Golden Bears took game two 7-3. 

This season the Mustangs have a 22-16 overall record and a 8-4 record in NSIC play. SMSU went 1-3 last week, earning a split against Minnesota State on Thursday, before dropping two games to Winona State in Mankato. 

At the plate the Mustangs are led by Aliza Acker with a .935 OPS and a .366/.407/.528 slash line. Acker is tied for sixth in the NSIC with 11 doubles, while smacking three home runs this season and driving in 19 runs. 

Jordyn Marsh is second on the team with a .834 OPS and a .289/.413/.421 slash line, while swatting two homers and four doubles with 17 RBI. Grace Anderson has a .815 OPS and a .290/.395/.420 slash line with four doubles, one triple, a home run and 14 RBI. 

In the circle the Mustangs are led by Jordyn Marsh, who is 14-5 with a 1.78 ERA, which ranks 10th in the NSIC. Marsh has tossed 18 complete games this season with 98 strikeouts in 130.0 innings pitched, she ranks first in the conference in innings and seventh in strikeouts. 

Ramsey Hopp has made 18 starts for SMSU this season with a 8-10 record and a 3.60 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 107.0 innings pitched. 

Bailey Bouman is the head coach of the Mustangs, she is in her eight season with SMSU and has amassed a 141-174 overall record and a 75-97 record at the helm of the program.

Series Record: CSP 11, USF 14 
The Golden Bears and Cougars history dates back to the 2013 season with USF winning 14 of the 26 meetings between the two programs. CSP won just two of the first 10 meetings, but since 2018 the Golden Bears have the upper hand with a 9-5 record against the Cougars, including an active four game winning streak. Concordia took both games of a doubleheader at Carlander Field last season, with a 4-0 win and a 5-3 victory. 

The Cougars are 20-17 this season with a 8-4 record in NSIC play, after dropping three of their four games last weekend. On Friday the Cougars lost both games of a doubleheader against Minnesota State 8-0 and 3-0, before grabbing a 6-2 win over Winona State on Saturday afternoon, later falling to the Warriors 7-0 in game two of the doubleheader. 

At the plate the Cougars are led by Kyra Knudtson, who has a .873 OPS this season while posting a .340/.417/.456 slash line. Knudtson has nine doubles, one home run and 19 RBI this season while drawing a team leading 15 walks. 

Emma Kristof leads the team with a .885 OPS and a .337/.390/.495 slash line, smacking 10 doubles, one triple and a homer with 18 RBI. Meghan Jochimsen has a .779 OPS this season with a .314/.364/.415 slash line, with six doubles, three triples and 13 RBI. 

In the circle the Cougars are led by Maddi Duncan, who leads the NSIC with a 1.53 ERA, while posting a 12-6 record in 19 starts with 17 complete games. Duncan leads the NSIC with 176 strikeouts in 123.1 innings pitched. 

Lauryn Foudree has made 16 starts for the Cougars, posting a 2.88 ERA and a 6-10 record in 92.1 innings this season. Foudree has also completed five games and collected 71 punchouts, with a .281 opponent batting average. 

Tommy Downs is the head coach of the Cougars and is in his first season at the helm of the USF softball team.
