CSP lacrosse set for regular season finale against NMU

Action is set for Saturday at 11 a.m.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (6-9, 3-4 GLIAC) returns home for their final regular-season game of the season, taking on the Wildcats of Northern Michigan (11-5, 5-2 GLIAC). 

Action will take place on Saturday, Apr. 25 inside the Concordia Dome at 11 a.m. The day will feature a senior day presentation for Kayleigh Nelson, Susie Monson, Anna Palony, Sydney Smith, Claire Flahaven, Natalie Brownfield and Morgan Haapla. We thank them for all their contributions to Golden Bear athletics and wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors

LAST TIME OUT
Game One: CSP 19, SVSU 5
With the victory, CSP is now 4-0 all-time against the Cardinals by a combined goal margin of 74-16. 

The magic of the game was led by freshman Shelby Marik and senior Susie Monson who combined for eight goals and 10 points in the win to help guide the Golden Bears to their first back-to-back wins of the season. 

Joining the duo on the offensive attack was Shelby Hansen and Alayna Roehl who recorded five points each. In addition to the four five point players Kaci Kotschevar, Lauren Barnacle, Sydney Smith, Nora LeBlanc, Jayde Isaacson and Mackenzie Moir each added to the scoring party. 

As a team, the Navy and Gold held an advantage in every single stat category, tallying 40 shots to the SVSU's 12. 

In addition CSP recorded a 33-8 shot on goal advantage, forcing 21 turnovers and winning draw controls 18-7. 

The offensive effort by the Golden Bears proved to be one of their most productive with the defense standing tall throughout the entirety of the contest. 

Junior goalkeepers Marge Lucio and Erika Holm both split time in the game with Holm starting and Lucio coming in for second half relief. Lucio made four saves to bring her season total to 67. 

Joining the goalies on the defensive effort was Natalie Brownfield with a career-high seven ground balls and Moir with a season-high three caused turnovers. 

Monson led the draw control effort winning six to surpass 300 career draw controls and notched her 71st of the season. 

SEASON LEADERS
Freshman Shelby Marik has continued her stellar freshman campaign, leading the team with 37 goals (3rd in GLIAC). Her 99 attempted shots rank fifth in single-season program history. 

Senior Susie Monson has continued her mainstay pressure all around the field, tallying 29 goals (7th in GLIAC), 13 assists (T-5th),  42 points (5th in GLIAC) and 71 draw controls (2nd in GLIAC). 

Senior Claire Flahaven's excellence on the defensive side has continued to reign true, her 2.00 caused turnovers per game rank first in the GLIAC. She has also recorded 30 caused turnovers (2nd in GLIAC) and 37 ground balls (8th in GLIAC). 

MILESTONE WATCH
Susie Monson sits at 192 career points, eight away from 200. She is also only four points away from becoming the program's all-time leader in points. 

Monson also sits at 92 ground balls, eight away from 100. 

Anna Palony sits at 49 career caused turnovers, one away from 50. 

Sydney Smith sits at 48 career goals, two away from 50. 

Marge Lucio sits at 91 career ground balls, nine away from 100. 

Erika Holm sits at 82 career saves, 18 away from 100. 

Claire Flahaven sits at 86 career ground balls, 14 away from 100. 

POSTSEASON OUTLOOK
The Golden Bears have clinched their spot in the 2026 GLIAC Lacrosse Tournament with seeding yet to be determined. The tournament will consist of the top-four teams with the No.1 seed facing the No. 4 and No. 2 meeting No. 3. The winners of the semifinals will meet in the championship game.

Dates are set for May 1 & 3 and will take place on the campus of Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. as the Lakers have clinched the regular-season title. 

ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Northern Michigan posted a (11-8, 4-4 GLIAC) record during the 2025 season and were picked to finish second in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll after making their third straight trip to the GLIAC Tournament Championship game. 

The Wildcats currently sit at (11-5, 5-2 GLIAC) after a compelling 22-1 victory over SVSU and falling to No. 3 UIndy 20-7 in a split GLIAC and non-conference week. 

Leading the charge for NMU is junior Josie Lakosky who is the reigning GLIAC Attacker of the Year. Lakowsky currently leads the GLIAC with a staggering 91 goals and 123 points. Both of these totals rank first in NCAA Division II. 

HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND NMU
The two programs have met a total of 20 times dating back to March 3, 2017 where CSP earned a 14-8 win. The Golden Bears would go on to win the first six straight meetings before the Wildcats took the reins and hold a 12-8 all-time record. 

Last season, the two teams split their regular-season meetings. CSP took game one 13-9 in St. Paul and NUM narrowly won game two 8-7 in Marquette. 

The two programs met in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals where Concordia fell 9-7 to Northern Michigan. 

Earlier this season, the Wildcats won 16-7 against the Golden Bears. Leading CSP was Alayna Roehl with two goals.
