VIERA, Fla. — The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (8-9, 0-0) moved to 2-2 at the Space Coast Games with a split this afternoon. The Golden Bears started the day by dropping a one run contest to Goldey-Beacom, 4-3 before breaking out in game two to take down Roosevelt, 9-1 in six innings.
Riley Rosenthal notched four hits on the day, going 2-for-4 game one, before putting together a 2-for-2 night in game two, driving in three runs and smacking one double. Nora Brandt collected three hits in six trips to the plate, with one RBI and a walk.
Danni Sharum had three hits in five at bats with one RBI, Haley Knoblauch went 2-for-2 at the plate in game two with an RBI and a walk.
Emmy Bowne got the start in game one, going 3.0 innings and giving up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out five. Abi Carter tossed three innings in relief, allowing one earned run on five hits and taking the loss to fall to 1-1.
Tatum Dunlavy toed the rubber in game two, going 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts to grab the win and move to 3-4 in the circle.
The Golden Bears will have an off day tomorrow before returning to action Sunday afternoon at the Space Coast Games, with games against Franklin Pierce at 1:30 p.m. and D'Youville with first pitch set for 3:45 p.m.
Game One: CSP 3, GBC 4
The Lightning struck first plating a pair in the bottom of the opening inning, on a single to center and a groundout to second.
A single and a walk put CSP in business in the third, getting on the board with a Danni Sharum RBI single through the left side of the infield. Goldey-Beacom responded in the third with a double to left that eventually came around to score on a groundout to right to make it a 3-1 game.
Riley Rosenthal got things started in the fifth with a leadoff single to right, advancing to second on a groundout and coming around to score on a Lightning throwing error. Nora Brandt shot a single to left, sending Ella Arendt home to score and tie it up at three.
GBC opened the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff triple to the right center gap, bringing the go-ahead run just 60 feet away. One batter later the Lightning took the lead on a RBI infield single, Carter limited the damage giving up just the one run to keep CSP within striking distance.
CSP loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but couldn't cash in falling 4-3 to the Lightning.
Game Two: CSP 9, RU 1
After holding the Lakers scoreless in the first, the CSP lineup got to work in the bottom half. Loading the bases on a single and two walks, before plating the games' first run on a Bryleigh Dana free pass. Ava Blake plated another run on a bases loaded walk to make it 2-0.
Roosevelt got one back on a RBI single in the second, but Tatum Dunlavy was able to limit the damage to just the one unearned run.
Haley Knoblauch came up with a two out RBI single to center, plating Riley Rosenthal and opening up a 3-1 lead.
CSP's big inning came in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on three Laker errors to put up a five spot in the inning. Three of those runs came around to score on a Riley Rosenthal double to left center, followed by a Nora Brandt RBI single to make it 8-1.
The Golden Bears blanked the Lakers in each of the next three frames, pushing one across in the bottom of the sixth on a Emily Knoblauch single up the middle to secure the 9-1 win.
As a team the Golden Bears drew 11 walks against the Lakers, the second most in a game in program history. The last time CSP drew 11 walks in a game was on April 26, 2014 against St. Cloud State.
