VIERA, Fla. — The Concordia-St. Paul softball team picked up one win at the Space Coast Spring Games this afternoon, falling 3-1 to Franklin Pierce to start the day before smacking a season-high 15 hits to take down D'Youville 10-2 in six innings.
Nora Brandt went 3-for-6 at the plate across both games, with a double, a triple and five RBI. Riley Rosenthal collected four hits in six at bats, with one double, an RBI and three runs scored.
Emmy Bowne got the start in game one, going 6.0 innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs while striking out five, taking the loss and falling to 4-5 on the season. Tatum Dunlavy took the circle in game two, going 5.0 innings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts to grab the win and improve to 4-4 on the year.
The Golden Bears are now 3-3 through six games at the Space Coast Games with four to play. CSP is back in action for two tomorrow against Thomas More at 2:45 p.m. and Palm Beach Atlantic with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
Game One: CSP 1, FPU 3
A Danni Sharum leadoff walk in the second was immediately followed by a Nora Brandt triple to the right center gap, putting CSP on the board first in the early going.
Emmy Bowne held the Ravens off the board in the opening two innings, before Franklin Pierce plated two on a double to left to take a 2-1 lead in the third. Bowne held the Ravens scoreless in the next two frames to keep CSP within one.
In the top of the sixth Riley Rosenthal lined a one out double to left, but CSP couldn't cash in stranding the tying run in scoring position.
Franklin Pierce came up with three straight one out singles, plating the insurance run on a Delaney Dufo single up the middle to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
In their final turn at the plate CSP got things started with a Nora Brandt leadoff single, followed by a single for Abi Carter, but the Golden Bears failed to score, falling 3-1. CSP managed five hits against the Ravens with Lily Burke going 1-for-3 at the plate and collecting a double, while Riley Rosenthal had a double as well and Nora Brandt went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple.
Game Two: CSP 10, DYU 2 (6 Inn.)
After holding the Saints scoreless in the top of the first, CSP got to work at the plate scoring the game's first run on an Abi Carter RBI single to center.
D'Youville tied things up at one in the third with an RBI single down the left field line. CSP responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, with a Riley Rosenthal one out single and stolen base followed by an RBI double from Alexis Monty to open up a 2-1 lead. One more run came around to score in the inning to make it a 3-1 game.
CSP put up another three spot in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases on a pair of singles and a hit by pitch, before a bases clearing Nora Brandt double to right center opened up a 6-1 lead.
The Saints scraped across one in the fifth, but CSP responded with three more in the bottom half capping the inning with a Makayla Wigern RBI double down the left field line. The Golden Bears tacked on another in the sixth to grab a 10-2 lead and end it.
Three Golden Bears notched multiple hits in the eight run win with Lily Burke going 2-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base, Emily Knoblauch pinch hit and grabbed two hits, two RBI and stolen base, while Riley Rosenthal went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Mikayla Wigern grabbed her first hit of the season with a pinch hit RBI double in the fifth. Skyler Lee made her fourth relief appearance of the season, going 1.0 innings and giving up no earned runs.
