CSP lacrosse prepare for final non-conference slate

Action will start on Friday in Liberty, Mo.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (2-4, 0-0 GLIAC) prepares for their final set of non-conference games, facing the Cardinals of William Jewell and Hawks of Rockhurst this weekend. 

Action will start with the Cardinals on Friday, Mar. 13 at 11 a.m. in Liberty, Mo. on the soccer/lacrosse field. The Golden Bears will then head to Kansas City, Mo. to face the Hawks on Sunday, Mar. 15 at Bourke Field with a 11 a.m. first draw.

LAST TIME OUT
Game One: QU 19, CSP 10
Leading the offensive attack for the Golden Bears was Susie Monson, Shelby Marik and Alayna Roehl, each notching a pair of goals. 

Leading the defensive effort for the Golden Bears was senior Claire Flahaven. Flahaven  notched two caused turnovers, one ground ball and won a team-leading four draw controls.  

Junior goalkeeper Marge Lucio saw her third start of the season in net where she made three saves before Erika Holm came in for the second half of play. Holm made a season-high six saves and saw a team-high four ground balls. 

As a team, the Hawks were in the driver's seat from the very beginning and forced the Golden Bears to commit 21 turnovers. Quincy out-shot CSP 37-21 and won 18 of the draw controls. 

The Navy and Gold went 11-19 on clear attempts and were only able to get 13 shots on goal, which proved to be too hard to overcome. 

Game Two: MWSU 15, CSP 7
Shelby Marik continued her stellar freshman campaign, notching her 13th goal of the season and accumulating a team-leading four ground balls. 

Leading the defensive effort once again for the Golden Bears was Senior Claire Flahaven who tallied a team-leading three caused turnovers and two ground balls. 

Junior Erika Holm got her second start of the season in net where she made a career-high 10 saves, bringing her season total to 22. 

As a team, Concordia committed 21 turnovers and went 9-13 on clear attempts while recording just 11 shots on goal. 

The Griffons were dominant on the draw control, winning 18 of 24 attempts, holding CSP to their lowest draw control total since last season's clash with Grand Valley State where the Golden Bears won just five. 

SEASON LEADERS
Shelby Marik leads the Golden Bears scoring attack with a team-leading 13 goals. Her goals rank sixth in the GLIAC.

Susie Monson continues to be a mainstay for the Navy and Gold both with her offensive attack and her draw controls. Her team-leading 30 draw controls rank second in the GLIAC along with her 5.00 game average. 

Jenna Hamann leads the assist effort with six this season, ranking eighth in the GLIAC.

Claire Flahaven leads the CSP defensive effort with 10 caused turnovers, ranking third in the GLIAC. 

Natalie Brownfield has tallied a team-leading 12 ground balls.

In the net, both Erika Holm and Marge Lucio have combined for 45 saves. 

MILESTONE WATCH
Goalkeeper Marge Lucio sits at 192 career saves, eight away from 200.

Defender Natalie Brownfield sits at 41 career caused turnovers, nine away from 50.

Midfielder Susie Monson sits at 283 career shots, 17 away from 300. Monson also has 80 ground balls, 20 away from 100. 

Defender Anna Palony sits at 43 caused turnovers, seven away from 50. 

Attack Sydney Smith sits at 40 career goals, 10 away from 50. 

ABOUT THE CARDINALS
William Jewell posted a (7-10, 2-5 GLVC) record during the 2025 season and were picked to finish eighth in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 12 points. 

The Cardinals currently sit at (1-2, 0-0 GLVC) after falling to both Missouri Western State and No. 1 Benedictine College and earning their first win, 20-4 over Ottawa University. 

In their third season as a program, William Jewell has increased their win total each year and has grown their roster size to 21 student-athletes this season. The players to watch for the Cardinals are attacks Toryn Podschwit and Miranda Menousek who have recorded a team-leading seven goals each. 

HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND WJ
The two programs have met a total of two times dating back to March 22, 2024. The Golden Bears have won both meetings by a combined 37-17. 

Last season, Concordia earned a 19-11 victory over the Hawks in St. Paul led by four goals from senior Anna Fisher and three goals from Sara Kaiser and Shelby Hansen

ABOUT THE HAWKS
Rockhurst posted a (13-5, 5-2 GLVC) record during the 2025 season and were picked to finish third in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 37 points after reaching the GLVC Tournament last season. 

The Hawks currently sit at (6-0, 0-0 GLVC) and last week saw victories over Colorado Mesa and Colorado State Pueblo. 

Riding their six-game winning streak, Rockhurst is off to their best season start in program history led by 22 goals from senior attack Elise Magee. A transfer from Colorado State Pueblo, Magee was named to the All-RMAC Second Team and was a CSC Academic All-District member in previous seasons.

HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND RU
The two programs have met a total of seven times dating back to March 3, 2017 where CSP earned a 16-12 victory in Kansas City. 

Concordia holds a slight 4-3 all-time advantage but it's the Hawks that have won the past three meetings. 

Last season, Rockhurst took down the Golden Bears 14-10 in St. Paul with Susie Monson and Anna Fisher leading the Navy and Gold's attack, each scoring a hat-trick.
