Golden Bears return to South Division play riding a seven game win streak

CSP’s four game homestand continues with games against Augustana and Wayne State this week.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team continues its four game homestand this week. The Golden Bears are now riding a seven game win streak after taking down Minot State and UMary over the weekend. 

On Thursday, CSP will play host to the Augustana Vikings at the Gangelhoff Center, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Wayne State Wildcats come to town on Saturday for an afternoon game at the Gangelhoff Center, with tip-off set for 1 p.m. 

The seven game win streak improves the Golden Bears overall record to 15-6 and their conference record to 11-5, moving into a three-way tie for fourth place in the NSIC with Southwest Minnesota State and UMary.

Purchase Tickets in Advance Online
Fans are highly encouraged to purchase tickets online at cspbears.com/tickets prior to game day. All ticketed events for the 25-26 academic year will utilize the Vivenu online ticket platform found at that link and fans must scan a mobile ticket to enter. Tickets will still be sold on site on game day but purchases are card-only and include additional fees. The best way for fans to make their game day entry as smooth as possible is to purchase tickets online in advance. CSP Students, Faculty and Staff will be able to download their free passes through Vivenue.

Last Time Out 
The Golden Bears closed out North-South crossover play with a 2-0 weekend picking up wins over Minot State and UMary. CSP went 7-1 against North Division opponents this season, with the lone loss coming on Jan. 9 in overtime to MSU Moorhead. 

Friday night's game saw the Golden Bears earn a 75-54 win over the Beavers, with Lydia Haack leading the pack with 24 points. Haack was 8-of-17 shooting on the night, while going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, dishing out six assists and grabbing three rebounds. 

Leah Dengrud tallied 16 points in the win, going a perfect 10-of-10 at the charity stripe, while going 3-of-10 from the floor, falling one board shy of the double-double with nine rebounds. 

Lauren Wilson tallied 12 rebounds on the night coming up two points shy of the double-double with eight points, while dishing out five assists. 

Minot held a 7-2 lead early in the first, but CSP responded by outscoring the Beavers 13-7 for the remainder of the quarter, to hold a one point lead at the end of the period. Haack drilled a three ball to open the second to set the tone. Concordia controlled play from there putting up 25 points in the second to hold a 40-30 lead at the break. 

The Beavers got within eight midway through the third, but the Golden Bears quickly regained a double digit advantage thanks to a 13-5 run. In the fourth CSP led by as many as 25, going on to win by 21. 

Saturday's game was closely contested for much of the first half, with both teams shooting at a 47% clip in the opening quarter. The Marauders opened up an eight point lead in the second, which ended up being the largest of the half. CSP clawed their way back in the second, shooting 56% from the floor to tie it at 40 late in the quarter.

CSP regained the lead in a back-and-forth third quarter on an Emma Mommsen tip-in layup. Leah Dengerud hit from three to give the Golden Bears a six point lead later in the third, UMary answered by tying things up at 60 heading into the final quarter. 

The fourth quarter belonged to CSP, as the defense limited the Marauders to nine points and 23% shooting in the period. The Golden Bear offense continued to click, scoring 23 points and securing the 83-69 win.

Lydia Haack once again turned in a stand out performance, posting a 26 point, 10 assist double-double while going 10-of-15 from the floor. Lauren Wilson turned in a 20 point night as well, shooting 6-of-15 from the field, with seven rebounds and two assists. 

Emma Mommsen tallied 12 points in the win as well, going 6-of-7 from the floor with six rebounds.

Lydia Lights It Up
After averaging 26.0 points, 8.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game over the weekend, senior guard Lydia Haack was named NSIC South Player of the Week. It is the third time this season Haack has earned player of the week honors. 

Haack was efficient all weekend long, shooting at a 56% (18-52) clip from the field as CSP went 2-0 to extend its win streak to seven games. Haack's 26.0 ppg were tied with Northern State's Izzy Moore for first in the NSIC over the weekend. 

Record Watch
Haack's 52 points over the weekend helped her inch closer the the 1,000 career point mark in her time at CSP. This season Haack has accumulated 386 points bringing her CSP total to 924 points, needing 76 points to become the 30th member of the CSP 1,000 point club. 

The senior guard continues to climb up the NSIC All-Time scoring list as well, with 301 points in conference games this season Haack now has 1,420 points in NSIC games between her time with Upper Iowa and CSP. Haack's 1,420 points now place her fourth on the NSIC career scoring leaders list, 65 points behind CSP's Anna Schmitt for third place. 

Lauren Wilson is closing in on the 1,000 career point mark as well, with 394 total points this season Wilson's career total is up to 929. 

Leah Dengerud needs 75 points to become a member of the CSP 1,000 point club. The senior guard has tallied 227 points this season and is averaging 10.8 points per game. Dengerud is climbing up the three-point field goal leader board as well, her 152 career three-point makes, place her eighth in program history and seven off Riley Wheatcraft's mark of 159 three-point field goals.

Golden Bears by the Numbers
The Golden Bears rank second in the NSIC and 17th nationally in scoring offense this season averaging 76.7 points per game this season. The Golden Bears rank sixth in the NSIC in scoring defense, allowing an average of 66.9 ppg. 

CSP ranks seventh in the NSIC in team field goal percentage, hitting at a 42.9% clip this season. In terms of opponent field goal percentage, CSP ranks second in the NSIC holding opponents to 38.3% from the field. 

Concordia leads the NSIC in combined team rebounds, averaging 40.4 rebounds per game. On defense CSP ranks 10th in the conference in combined opponent rebounds at 37.0 per game. 

The CSP defense leads the NSIC in blocked shots averaging 5.00 per game. The Golden Bears rank third in the NSIC in assists at 16.67 per game and lead the conference in assist/turnover ratio at 1.27. 

Lauren Wilson leads the team and ranks fifth in the NSIC in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game this season. Lydia Haack is second on the team and sixth in the conference with 18.4 ppg. 

Leah Dengerud is averaging 10.8 ppg, Ashley Schuelke is averaging 8.3, Emma Mommsen is averaging 6.4. Lauren Feddema is averaging 6.1 ppg off the bench and Avery Moeller is averaging 5.8 ppg. 

Wilson leads the team and ranks second in the NSIC in rebounding, averaging 9.0 per game. Haack is second on the team at 5.5 boards per game, Mommsen is averaging 5.2 rpg, Dengerud is averaging 4.8, Feddema is averaging 3.1 and Schuelke is averaging 3.0 rpg. 

The team leader in field goal percentage is Lauren Wilson at 50.5% (138-273), good for fourth in the NSIC. Lydia Haack is shooting at a 45% (134-298) clip this season, Leah Dengerud is 40.2% (74-184) from the floor, Emma Mommsen is 45.5% (55-121). Lauren Feddema is shooting 40% (36-90) off the bench. 

Lydia Haack leads the NSIC and ranks fourth in Division II in assists per game this season at 6.4, while also leading the conference and ranking fifth nationally in assist/turnover ratio at 2.8. Haack also ranks fifth in the NSIC in steals per game at 2.1.

Lauren Wilson ranks third in the NSIC in blocked shots at 1.5 per game. Emma Mommsen ranks fifth in the conference in blocked shots at 1.0 per game. 

Series History: Augustana 

Series Record: CSP 19, AU 22 
The Golden Bears and Vikings have faced off 41 times dating back to the 1994-95 season. Augustana has the upper hand winning 22 games over that span with CSP having won 19 games. 

In NSIC matchups the Golden Bears are 16-16 against the Vikings since 2009. Concordia took the most recent matchup in the series, earning an 80-69 win over Augustana on the road in Sioux Falls back in December. 

Leah Dengerud and Lauren Wilson put together a pair of 22 point performances, with Dengerud pulling down 10 rebounds and going 8-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc for her first double-double of the season. It was Wilson's fifth 20 point performance of the year, going 8-of-13 from the field and 6-0f-8 at the free throw line in the win. 

Lydia Haack poured in 16 points as well, with five assists and three steals. In total eight Golden Bears found the scoresheet as CSP was 29-of-60 (48.3%) shooting on the night. 

Augustana built an early 14-7 lead in the opening quarter, CSP battled back taking a one point lead later in the period and going up 24-19 at the end of one period of play. CSP steadily built a lead form there opening up a 10 point lead on an Ava Thompson bucket and eventually holding a 38-24 lead at the break. 

Augie answered to open the second half, narrowing the lead to just five, before CSP opened it up once more thanks to a 15-7 run to lead by nine entering the final quarter. CSP added 21 points in the final quarter to secure the 11 point win. 

About the Vikings 
Through 22 games this season Augustana holds a 9-13 overall record with a 6-10 record in NSIC play. The Vikings currently sit in 11th place in the NSIC and seventh place in the South Division. 

Augustana ranks 12th in the NSIC in scoring averaging 66.7 points per game this season. On defense the Vikings rank 14th in the conference in scoring, allowing an average of 72.7 ppg. 

As a team the Vikings are shooting at a 41.3% clip, which ranks 10th in the NSIC in team field goal percentage. Opponents are shooting 43.1% against Augustana, placing 13th in the conference in opponent field goal percentage. 

Augustana ranks ninth in the NSIC in combined team rebounds, averaging 37.1 rebounds per game this season. Opponents are averaging 35.5 rebounds per game, placing the Vikings eighth in the NSIC in combined opponent rebounds. 

Isabella Sanneh leads the Vikings in scoring this season with 14.7 points per game this season. Kirstin Edmonds is second on the team at 8.0 ppg, Maliyah Elliott is averaging 7.8 ppg, Payton Hardy is averaging 7.6 and Miranda Lomax is averaging 7.0. 

Sanneh leads the NSIC in rebounding this season, averaging 9.9 rebounds per game. Hardy is averaging 5.6 rpg for the Vikings, Ava Pautz and Clarissa Sauer are each averaging 3.8 rpg. 

The team leader in field goal percentage is Isabella Sanneh at 48.2% (120-249), good for eighth in the NSIC. Maliyah Elliott is hitting at a 38.4% (63-164) clip this season, Miranda Lomax is shooting 35.4% (58-164) and Kirstin Edmonds is shooting 36.4% (59-162) this season. 

Series History: Wayne State 

Series Record: CSP 31, WSC 25
The Golden Bears and Wildcats have played each other on 56 previous occasions dating back to 2000, with CSP winning 31 of those matchups. 

The two teams met earlier this season with CSP earning a 69-59 win in Wayne to extend their winning streak over the Wildcats to six games. Ashley Schuelke led the way for the Golden Bears with a season-high 21 points in the win. 

Schuelke's sharpshooting performance was made possible by going 7-of-8 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 5-of-5 at the free throw line. Lauren Wilson recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. 

Lauren Feddema recorded a career-high 15 points off the bench for CSP by shooting 4-of-9 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. 

The Golden Bears opened up an 8-2 lead early in the first, with the Wildcats tying things up at 11 later in the period. CSP opened the second quarter with a 13-0 run to take a 28-15 lead, as the Golden Bears carried a 12 point lead into the break. 

Wayne State cut the Concordia lead to just five in the third, but a pair of Schuelke layups brought the CSP advantage back to 10. In the final quarter CSP closed things out by shooting 72% from the field to secure a 10 point win. 

About the Wildcats
Wayne State holds an overall record of 10-12 and 5-11 in NSIC play through 22 games this season. The Wildcats currently sit in 13th place in the NSIC standings and eighth place in the South Division. 

This season the Wildcats rank 15th in the NSIC in scoring offense, averaging 64.5 points per game. In terms of scoring defense the Wildcats rank second best in the conference, allowing 64.3 ppg. 

Wayne State ranks 15th in the NSIC in team field goal percentage, hitting at a 38.9% clip from the field this season. Opponents are shooting 37.7% against Wayne this season, the lowest opponent field goal percentage in the conference. 

On the glass the Wildcats are fifth in the NSIC in combined team rebounds, averaging 38.6 per game. Opponents are averaging 37.5 rebounds per game, placing the Wildcats 11th in the conference in combined opponent rebounds. 

Kylah VanDonkersgoed leads the Wildcats in scoring this season, averaging 13.5 points per game. Rachel Dahlen is averaging 10.7 ppg, Tenleigh Smith is averaging 9.3 and Kelsey Willems is averaging 7.1 ppg. 

VanDonkersgoed leads the Wildcats and ranks 14th in the NSIC in rebounding, averaging 6.1 rebounds per game. Dahlen averages 5.9 rpg, Smith averages 5.0 rpg and Meg Rietz averages 4.3 rebounds per game. 

The Wildcats leading shooter this season is Rachel Dahlen at 43.9% (93-212), Kylah VanDonkersgoed is shooting 42.6% (106-249), Meg Rietz is hitting at a 36.8% (46-125) clip and Tenleigh Smith is shooting 35.8% (67-187).
