OPENING THOUGHTS ON THE SEASON FROM COACH JENNINGS

CONCORDIA DOME AT SEA FOAM STADIUM
The Golden Bears will play eight home contests this season including four-straight to open their 2026 campaign.
CSP's four home opening contests will feature Northwood, No. 6 Maryville, Lewis and McKendree before they will hit the road for a four-game slate to close out the non-conference schedule.
Concordia will return to the dome on Mar. 22 for the GLIAC opener against Saginaw Valley State and will see the other three conference opponents in Davenport, No. 18 Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan throughout April.
The Navy and Gold will transition from the dome to open-air play for their final home game on April. 15 against NMU. This will mark their only outdoor home game of the season and feature Senior Day for all eligible student-athletes.
NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
The Navy and Gold will play eight non-conference games to begin the season starting with a pair of games on home-opening weekend against Northwood and No. 6 Maryville.
CSP will face the Timberwolves for the first time in program-history with Northwood in year two of their program.
The Saints and Golden Bears have played four times dating back to March 22, 2019 with Concordia earning the 18-3 win, since then CSP is 0-3 in matches.
Concordia will continue their non-conference schedule with two more home games against Lewis and McKendree before traveling to face Quincy, Missouri Western, William Jewell and Rockhurst.
Jennings on the non-conference schedule, "All of our opponents are great and that's what I love about midwest Division II. It is a hard area to be in and there is top competition no matter who you play. You will always get a good game."
GLIAC PREVIEW
The Golden Bears are coming off a (9-8, 5-3 GLIAC) season where they finished second in the GLIAC and earned the No. 2 seed in the GLIAC Lacrosse Tournament, their highest conference finish to date.
The GLIAC coaches voted the Navy and Gold to finish third in the conference poll with 10 points behind Northern Michigan with 13 points.
CSP will open conference play against second-year program Saginaw Valley State in the Concordia Dome. The Cardinals joined the GLIAC last season in their inaugural year where they finished (0-13, 0-8 GLIAC).
Each GLIAC opponent will play conference opponents twice, once at home and once on the road to decide the regular-season conference champion and seeding for GLIAC Lacrosse Tournament. The top-four teams will advance to the tournament.
Jennings on the GLIAC, "I always expect good battles against our conference opponents. I think we had a good finish last year, so I'm excited to see what we can build off of that."
POSITION THOUGHTS
Attack:
"This is the group with the most changes from last year, but I am excited because we have some key players who have started to showcase themselves in practices."
The attack group will see a large number of returners and newcomers this season after graduating two All-GLIAC selections in Anna Fisher and Cayla Jungwirth. Seniors Sydney Smith and Morgan Haapala will lead the squad after accumulating 23 combined goals last season along with All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Kayleigh Nelson.
Nelson saw her first conference accolade last season after tallying 11 goals and 16 points for the Golden Bears offense. Joining the trio on the attack will be Shelby Hansen, Erin Chartier, Kaci Kotschevar, Jenna Hamann, Ella Brisbois and newcomers Kaitlyn Rossi and Brooklynn Hedberg.
Midfielders:
"We have a really solid midfield group, they are fast and skilled. The speed of this group is something that we haven't seen in the past on this team as much. Being able to bring that speed to the midfield is going to be huge for transitions and different looks, whether it's on offense or defense."
Reigning GLIAC Midfielder of the Year Susie Monson returns for her final season in the Navy and Gold and will lead this year's midfielder group after notching a 32 goal, 62 point and 93 draw control campaign last season.
Joining Monson's midfield leadership is junior Kaysawn Carlson who appeared in all 17 games and scored eight goals . This group will see a large influx of new names, including Nora LeBlanc, Lauren Barnacle, Shelby Marik, Alayna Roehl, Jayde Isaacson and Mackenzie Moir.
Defenders:
"Our defensive unit has a lot of depth this year and that's something we are really excited about. We will have a strong core four but also be able to rely on those players coming off the bench, which will be huge for us." - Assistant Coach Fiona Jannell
Claire Flahaven returns for the Golden Bears after becoming the GLIAC Defender of the Year last season and looks to help the defense pick-up right where it left off after notching 26 ground balls, 26 caused turnovers and 34 draw controls.
Joining Flahaven on defense will be All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Anna Palony and a strong group of returners in Shelby Mahowald, Natalie Brownfield and Riley Klein. Newcomers for this group include Abby Leto, Chloe Johanson and sophomore transfer Ruby Swenson.
Goalies:
"They are both great goalies and the nice part is they both have their strengths that they bring to the program. They have really stepped up communication wise, clear wise and so it' s been fun to see that leadership and the expanded confidence in the cage for us this spring."
Junior goalkeepers Erika Holm and Marge Lucio both return for Concordia. The pair will both get opportunities in net after splitting time the previous two seasons.
Last season, Lucio saw action in seven games where she made 22 saves. Holm played in six games, making 27 saves and recorded a 3-1 record.
FINAL WORDS FROM COACH JENNINGS
"They really challenge themselves and challenge each other in practice and there are some big goals on the table for this team and I think that's really being led by our senior group that's put a lot of time and energy in this program. I am excited to see if we can get the goals accomplished this spring!"
