AUSTIN, Texas - Concordia-St. Paul senior golfer Thomas Gutzmer earned a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® At-Large First Team selection on Wednesday. He becomes the first golfer in program history to earn first team honors.
Gutzmer joins Mark Austen as the only golfers in program history to be named CSC Academic All-Americans®. Austen earned second team selections in back-to-back seasons from 2011-13, making Gutzmer the third overall selection for the program.
This past season, Gutzmer led the Golden Bears with an average score of 72.1, tying for the lowest in program history. He was named NSIC Golfer of the Year and helped the Golden Bears win the conference championship for the second time in program history.
Ty McGeary, a wrestler from West Liberty (W.V.), was named the CSC Men's Division II At-Large Team Member of the Year. Gutzmer was one of six golfers named to the first team. Bemidji State's Logan Schoepp also earned a first team honor to represent the NSIC in golf.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division II Academic All-America® program.
