Golden Bear freshmen shine at Maverick Open #2

CSP competes in final tune up before NSIC Championships

MANKATO, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams competed in their final meet before next week's NSIC Championships on Friday afternoon, traveling to Mankato, Minn. for the Maverick Open #2 hosted by Minnesota State.

Freshman Cam Mata set a new personal record in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 10.81 seconds in the preliminaries before finishing in 10.82 seconds to finish third.

Fellow freshman Zay Acosta also set a personal record, clocking a time of 1:58.52 in the 800m to place 8th.

For the Concordia women, freshman Mackenzie Lovejoy recorded a personal best, finishing in 1:06.87 to claim fifth place in the event.

Freshman Bernie Barnhardt continued the trend of setting personal records, setting a new career mark in the hammer throw with a throw of 50.72m (166' 5") to place 4th. She also placed eighth in the shot put with a distance of 11.53 meters (37' 10").

Junior Dan Otto competed in three events, taking third in the shot put and sixth in the discus while finishing 13th and setting a new personal record with a distance of 48.39 meters in the hammer throw.

The Golden Bears will now turn their attention towards the NSIC Outdoor Championships, set to begin next Thursday in Duluth, Minn.
