ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (7-5, 3-1 GLIAC) will hit the road for a pair of weekend games, visiting the Panthers of Davenport and the Lakers of No. 22 Grand Valley State.
Action will start on Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich. to face the Panthers at DU Turf Field beginning at 4 p.m. CT. The Golden Bears will then travel to Allendale, Mich. to take on the Lakers at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium at 11 a.m. CT. on Sunday.
RECAP OF THE WEEK
Game One: CSP 13, NMU 9
The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team earned a big GLIAC win 13-9 over the Wildcats of Northern Michigan on Saturday afternoon inside the Concordia Dome.
Susie Monson highlighted the day for the Golden Bears for yet another time, tallying her fifth game of the season with at least three goals scored. Adding to her impeccable day was eight draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Freshman goalkeeper Katie Colleran continued her strong play making 11 saves in the win to bring her season total to 64 saves and marked her second consecutive game with single-digit goals allowed on 20 plus shots faced.
Anna Fisher recorded her eighth game of the season with a hat-trick including her third straight to ignite the Golden Bears offense.
It was a team effort in the win, ten players recorded at least one ground ball with five players tallying a caused turnover.
Anna Palony and Maddie Westerberg each recorded a trio of caused turnovers and ground balls to keep the ball in the hands of the electric CSP offense.
The Golden Bears out shot the Wildcats 33-23 while forcing 21 turnovers to earn their first win over the Wildcats since 2022.
SEASON LEADERS
Susie Monson continues to lead the GLIAC in total assists (22), assists per game (1.83) and draw controls per game (5.08).
Anna Fisher currently ranks second in the GLIAC in four categories including total goals (38), goals per game (3.17), shots per game (7.33) and shots on goal per game (5.25).
Katie Colleran ranks second in the GLIAC in saves per game (7.11) and ground balls per game with 3.67 which ranks 17th in NCAA DII.
As a team, the Golden Bears lead the GLIAC in assists per game (6.00), caused turnovers per game (10.08) and women-down goals per game (0.42).
RECORD WATCH
Monson is just two assists away from being the program leader in career assists with one assist she will tie the record with former players Molly Moynihan and Maddie Hentges. With four more points Monson will move from fifth to fourth in total career points.
Fisher is two more points away from moving to top-five in career points and with five more goals will move to top-four in career goals.
Colleran is eight saves away from being seventh in single-season saves and with two more wins will be top-three in single-season wins.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Davenport posted a (6-9, 1-5 GLIAC) record in the 2024 season and were picked to finish third in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with nine points, just one point ahead of the Golden Bears.
The Panthers currently sit at (6-5, 1-3 GLIAC) after splitting this last week's games, falling 12-3 against GVSU and topping SVSU 22-6.
The midfield duo of Blakely Malpass and Maddy Haynes have accumulated 53 goals and 64 points together and lead the Panthers offensively.
HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND DU
The two programs have met a total of 15 times dating back to March 29, 2018 where the Golden Bears won 13-8.
CSP would go on to win the next four meetings, before Davenport would earn their first win on April 16, 2021 by a score of 15-9.
Concordia currently holds the all-time record 10-5.
Earlier this season, the Golden Bears got the close win 11-9 in St. Paul led by senior Anna Fisher who recorded six goals and goalkeeper Katie Colleran who made a season-high 15 saves.
CSP forced 16 turnovers from Davenport while holding a 15-8 draw control advantage.
ABOUT THE LAKERS
Grand Valley State posted a (17-2, 6-0 GLIAC) record in the 2024 season and were picked to finish first in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll after winning their fourth straight GLIAC Tournament Championship.
GVSU has advanced to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances in the last three years and have now taken the crown for all 11 regular-season GLIAC Titles while winning eight out of the 11 GLIAC Tournament CHampionships.
The No. 22 Lakers currently sit at (9-3, 4-0 GLIAC) after going 2-0 last week topping both Davenport and Saginaw Valley State handedly.
Grand Valley returned seven of their top-10 scorers from last season with attack Ashleigh Rothe leading the team this season with 35 goals and 53 total points.
HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND GVSU
The two programs have met a total of 13 times dating back to March 25, 2018 where the Lakers earned their first win over the Golden Bears. Grand Valley currently is undefeated against Concordia, holding a 13-0 all-time record.
Last season, the Lakers outscored the Golden Bears 34-5 combined in their two meetings.
Earlier this season, Grand Valley State took home the win 17-10 in St. Paul in one of the two teams closest match ups to date.
The Golden Bears got off to a fast start to go up 2-0 early to mark the first ever time that CSP has led at any point in any game between the programs. Monson and Fisher combined for seven goals and nine points in the loss.
