Golden Bears set another school record at Drake Relays

Faltesek hits NCAA provisional qualifier in 1500m

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at a pair of meets over the weekend, sending athletes to the 115th annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa while also competing at the Rider/Bolstorff Invite hosted by Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

The Rider/Bolstorff Invitational was a scored meet, with the CSP women finishing seventh out of 21 teams while the men finished sixth out of 14 teams.

For the Golden Bear women, the weekend was highlighted by the sprint medley relay squad of Karlina Zimmerman, Chidera Osuoha, Destiny Mattingly, and Nyadio Chan who finished in 4:08.57 to break the school record and finish fourth at the Drake Relays. The previous record of 4:09.61 was set just last season by Arika Harbo, Destiny Mattingly, Jaid Perry, and Nyadio Chan.

Emmett Faltesek also found success in Iowa, clocking a new personal best time of 3:48.12 in the 1500-meter run to finish third. That time was an NCAA provisional qualifier that ranks second in the NSIC and 49th in Division II this season.

In St. Paul, freshman thrower Bernie Barnhardt placed well in multiple events as she finished first in the shot put and discus throw while placing third in the hammer throw. Her shot put distance of 12.72 meters (41' 8.75") was a new personal record.

Dan Otto also claimed an individual victory in the shot put, recording a mark of 16.60 meters (54' 5.5").

Freshman Mackenzie Lovejoy placed well in a pair of hurdling events, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.49 seconds and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.75.

Senior Will Sacay placed first in the 5k on Thursday evening in St. Paul, clocking a time of 15:02.74.
