ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College on Friday and Saturday, recording three NCAA provisional qualifying marks and breaking one school record.
Senior
Calder Erick competed in his first multi-event action of the outdoor season, winning the men's decathlon with a total of 6,918 points. That mark is an NCAA provisional qualifier that currently ranks eighth in Division II and shattered his previous personal record of 6,613 points set at last year's NSIC Outdoor Championships. Erick finished first in five of the 10 events (100m, long jump, shot put, 400m, and 110m hurdles), second in the pole vault, fourth in both the javelin and discus, seventh in the 1500m, and 10
th in the high jump.
Will Hugo and
Jeffrey Odamtten also competed in the decathlon, finishing fourth and fifth while both setting personal records with 5,998 and 5,958 points, respectively.
Sophomore
Mehlayna Straub also found success in the multi-events for the Concordia women, winning the heptathlon with 4,714 points, also a personal record and a NCAA provisional qualifier that ranks 25
th in Division II. Straub achieved the feat with first-place finishes in the 100m hurdles, shot put, 200m, and long jump, a third-place finish in the high jump, a fourth-place finish in the 800m, and a fifth-place finish in the javelin.
Sophomore
Cadence Tanner had another outstanding outing, breaking the school record in the women's outdoor long jump with a distance of 5.87 meters (19' 3.25"). That mark is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, breaking
Arika Harbo's 2023 school record of 19' 1.5".
Junior
Nyadio Chan came within 0.4 seconds of the school record in the 800-meter run, placing third and setting a personal record with a time of 2:17.80.
Sophomore
Del Johnson set a new personal record with a time of 10.72 seconds in the 100-meter dash for the Concordia men while
Destiny Mattingly also set a personal best with a time of 12.29 seconds for the CSP women. Both finished seventh in the preliminaries, though neither competed in finals.
Junior
Dan Otto finished second in the discus throw for CSP, recording a distance of 49.66 meters (162' 11").
Bernie Barnhardt also had a strong outing in the throws, setting a new personal record with a toss of 41.79 meters (137' 1") in the discus and recording another personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.58 meters (156' 1").
Junior
Maya Lavendusky won the shot put for the third time in as many outings this season, recording a distance of 13.54 meters (44' 5.25").
Freshman
Cam Mata continued to improve in the long jump, setting a personal record with a mark of 6.88 meters (22' 7") to finish seventh.
