ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (8-6, 4-2 GLIAC) will host senior day against the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State in their lone outdoor home game of the season. Action will take place on Saturday at 12 p.m. from Sea Foam Stadium.
Six seniors will be honored for the Golden Bears including Kaitlyn Stelk, Anna Fisher, Maddie Westberg, Cayla Jungwirth, Paige Nicklaus and Meghan McGowan
RECAP OF THE WEEK
Game One: CSP 13, DU 12
The Golden Bears won their third straight game to stay hot in the GLIAC race behind Susie Monson's six points while taking down the Panthers of Davenport 13-12.
Susie Monson continued her exceptional season while also becoming the Golden Bears all-time leader in assists in the victory with 51. Monson marked her sixth game of the season with three plus goals, scoring four and adding two assists to once again shine for the Navy and Gold.
Junior Cayla Jungwirth saw her best game of the season, recording four goals to mark her fourth career game with a hat-trick.
Freshman Katie Colleran got the start in the net where she continued her strong defensive stand making eight saves to bring her season total to 72 and earn her fourth career win while also recording 13 ground balls.
Both teams tallied 30 shots with CSP just barely edging out the Panthers 21-20 in shots on goal. It was an even affair with each team making eight saves.
Monson added to her spectacular day with 10 draw controls to bring her season total to 61.
Sara Kaiser aided the Navy and Gold offense making three assists in the win while Smith and Jenna Hamman each had one.
Maddie Westberg led the defense with two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Game Two: GVSU 10, CSP 5
The Navy and Gold fell 10-5 to the No. 22 Lakers of Grand Valley State.
Anna Fisher recorded her 100th career point in the Navy and Gold with her four-goal day. She now sits at 103 collegiate career points and marked her ninth game of the season with a hat-trick.
Susie Monson added a goal to her terrific weekend while forcing four caused turnovers, two ground balls and making three draw controls.
Katie Colleran held her ground in the net once again for the Golden Bears making her eighth start of the season. She made 10 saves in the loss to bring her season total to 82. Colleran tallied her fourth game with double-digit saves made.
The two teams saw their closest matchup to date with the smallest win margin for the Lakers with five goals. CSP forced 22 turnovers from Grand Valley State to keep their offense in the game.
Paige Nicklaus helped lead the defense with four ground balls to bring her season total to 11.
SEASON LEADERS
Susie Monson continues to lead the GLIAC in total assists (25), assists per game (1.79) and draw controls per game (5.29).
Anna Fisher currently ranks second in the GLIAC in four categories including total goals (43), goals per game (3.07), shots per game (7.07) and shots on goal per game (5.07).
Katie Colleran ranks second in the GLIAC in saves (82), saves per game (7.45) and ground balls per game (4.64). Her ground balls per game rank sixth in NCAA DII.
As a team, the Golden Bears lead the conference in assists per game (5.71) and caused turnovers per game (5.29).
SEASON OUTLOOK
With just two games left to play, the Golden Bears currently sit at second place in the GLIAC, two games behind Grand Valley State.
CSP has already locked up a spot in the GLIAC Conference Tournament which will be hosted by the top seed. The semifinals will be played on May 2nd with the winner advancing to the conference championships on May 4th.
The Golden Bears four conference wins so far this season mark the best conference record since the 2022 season where they finished with a 4-4 GLIAC record.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
In their first season as a program, Saginaw Valley State was picked to finish fifth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with four points.
The Cardinals currently sit at (0-9, 0-4 GLIAC) after being outscored 198-36 on the season.
SVSU is led by attack Gabby Parker who leads the team with 17 goals and 35 shots.
Before heading to St. Paul, Saginaw will play the Wildcats of Northern Michigan on Friday.
HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND SVSU
The two programs met for the first time back in March when Concordia opened their conference schedule with GLIAC newcomer Saginaw Valley State. The Golden Bears topped the Cardinals handedly 18-3 in University Center, Mich.
Nine players in the Navy and Gold found the net in the victory including hat-tricks from Susie Monson, Sydney Smith and Shelbey Hansen.
