Box Score ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (8-6, 4-2 GLIAC) fell 10-5 to the No. 22 Lakers of Grand Valley State Sunday afternoon at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium in a competitive GLIAC matchup.
Anna Fisher recorded her 100th career point in the Navy and Gold with her four-goal day. She now sits at 103 collegiate career points and marked her ninth game of the season with a hat-trick.
Susie Monson added a goal to her terrific weekend while forcing four caused turnovers, two ground balls and making three draw controls.
Katie Colleran held her ground in the net once again for the Golden Bears making her eighth start of the season. She made 10 saves in the loss to bring her season total to 82. Colleran tallied her fourth game with double-digit saves made.
The two teams saw their closest matchup to date with the smallest win margin for the Lakers with five goals. CSP forced 22 turnovers from Grand Valley State to keep their offense in the game.
The Lakers got the scoring started first with a pair of back-to-back goals before Fisher scored her first goal of the day.
GVSU would go on a four-goal scoring run to extend their lead 6-1 late in the first quarter. Fisher cut into the run with her second goal of the day to end the quarter 6-2 in favor of the Lakers.
Back-to-back goals from Fisher and Monson to start the second quarter helped break down the Grand Valley State lead and give the Golden Bears a fighting chance.
After nine minutes of back and forth turnovers with both goalkeepers making saves the Lakers were able to sneak one in to end the second quarter up 7-4.
The third quarter was a defensive clinic with ten turnovers being forced between the two teams, before GVSU was able to score the lone goal of the quarter to extend their lead 8-4.
Three minutes into the final quarter the Lakers once again scored to extend their lead and force the Golden Bears to play fast if they wanted to get back in it.
A single goal from Fisher would not be enough to get the Navy and Gold back in the game. The Lakers would tack on one final goal to get the 14th straight victory over the Golden Bears.
Paige Nicklaus helped lead the defense with four ground balls to bring her season total to 11.
The Golden Bears will return to action next Saturday for their first and only outside game at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. Action is set to begin at 12 p.m. and will also feature the Navy and Gold's senior day to honor Meghan McGowan, Cayla Jungwirth, Maddie Westberg, Anna Fisher, Paige Nicklaus and Kaitlyn Stelk.
