ROSEVILLE, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (12-17, 4-0 NSIC) picked up its second sweep of the weekend over Minnesota Crookston (13-18, 1-3 NSIC). The Golden Bears scored 17 of their 20 runs on the day in two separate innings.Â
CSP only needed five innings to emerge victorious in game one, 13-4. The Golden Bears then picked up a 7-3 win in the second game. CSP trailed most of the way in game two before Bryleigh Dana hit a 3RBI double to take the lead.Â
Sophomore Alexis Monty tallied five hits with a home run and two RBIs. Senior Rachel Novak tallied four hits with two doubles and three RBIs. Freshman Ella Arendt smacked her first career home run in the first game. She finished with three hits and two RBIs.Â
Freshman Katie Klotz also smacked three hits with a double and a home run, marking her second homer of the weekend. She tied for the team lead with Dana for RBIs on the day with four. Riley Rosenthal and Dana each had three hits with a double.Â
On the mound, Sophomore Emmy Bowne picked up the win in game one throwing a season-high five strikeouts. In game two, Tatum Dunlavy only allowed one earned run while also tallying a season-high in strikeouts with six.Â
The Golden Bears are back in action on Wednesday, March 26 against Winona State (22-7, 3-1 NSIC). The game will be CSP's first home action at Carlander Field this season.Â
Game One
The Golden Bears started the day spectacularly, scoring 11 runs in the opening inning. CSP smacked 12 hits in the inning while the first 10 batters all reached base. The scoring run was highlighted by a 2RBI Novak double, a 2RBI Klotz home run and a 2RBI Monty home run.Â
In the top of the second inning, Arendt smacked her first career homer to left field to extend the lead to 12-0. Crookston scored four runs off of five hits and an error in the bottom of the second inning.Â
In the top of the third inning, Arendt hit a sacrifice fly for her second RBI of the game. The game remained scoreless the rest of the way as Bowne tallied four strikeouts in the final three innings. She used strikeouts to end both the fourth and fifth innings with runners on base.Â
Bowne improved her record to 5-7 on the season with the win. She allowed four earned runs on 10 hits, but was able to limit the damage by not walking any batters. Her five strikeouts marked a season-high.Â
Novak finished the game with a team-high three hits and three RBIs. She also tallied a team-high two doubles. Sydney Pelzer, Monty, Dana, Klotz and Arendt all tallied two hits. Monty, Klotz and Arendt each had two RBIs.Â
CSP outhit the Golden Eagles, 16-10. Both teams committed an error. Concordia walked three times and struck out twice. CSP left seven runners on base while UMC left six runners on base.Â
Game Two
With CSP trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning, Monty and Rosenthal singled while Pelzer reached on a fielder's choice, loading the bases. Dana made the most of her opportunity at the plate, hitting a 3RBI double into center field to take a 4-3 lead.Â
After Novak walked, Klotz hit a 2 RBI double down the left-field line to extend the lead to 6-3. Later in the inning, Lily Burke brought in the seventh run after reaching on an error. CSP got the 7-3 victory after retiring six straight batters in the final two innings.Â
The Golden Bears struck first early in the game. Monty singled to lead off and Rosenthal doubled down the left-field line, giving Concordia the early advantage.Â
Crookston responded in the bottom of the first with Hannah Trzinski hitting a no-out 2RBI single. The Golden Bears got out of the inning after a double play by Pelzer on a lineout and a strikeout by Dunlavy.Â
The Golden Eagles added another run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning for the 3-1 advantage. UMC loaded the bases later in the inning, but could not convert as Dunlavy struck out the final batter.Â
Dunlavy improved her record to 6-5 on the season pitching her eighth complete game. She threw a career-high six strikeouts while only allowing three hits. The freshman walked nine batters.Â
Crookston's Delaney Penner suffered her first loss on the mound this season, putting her record at 4-2. The freshman pitched five innings allowing five earned runs and a strikeout. She also threw her first wild pitch of the season.Â
Monty led the Golden Bears with three hits and scored two runs. Rosenthal tallied two hits and an RBI. Concordia finished with nine hits as a team. Crookston left nine runners on base while CSP left five on base.
