CSP softball’s conference opening doubleheaders moved to Friday and Saturday in Roseville

Golden Bears face Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston at Reynolds Field at the University of Northwestern

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (8-17) starts NSIC play this weekend. After a schedule change due to weather, this weekend's games have moved to Reynolds Field on the campus of the University of Northwestern in Roseville.

The Golden Bears will now face Bemidji State (13-11) on Friday, March 21 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. CSP will then host Minnesota Crookston (12-15) on Saturday, March 22 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears last competed in the Teri Mathis Zenner MIAA/NSIC Crossover. CSP defeated Nebraska Kearney before suffering losses in doubleheaders to Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State. 

Concordia-St. Paul tallied 14 hits in the 13-5 victory over UNK. Freshman Lily Burke had a breakout performance batting 3-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and scoring a run. Sydney Pelzer also went 3-3 with a double, two RBIs and scoring two runs. 

Emmy Bowne started for the Golden Bears allowing six hits and five runs with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Tatum Dunlavy finished the game in relief, allowing one hit and retiring the final two batters. 

On the weekend, Alexis Monty led CSP in batting .400/.438/.600. It was highlighted by a double and a triple in the second game against Pittsburg State. She also had two singles and scored two runs in the win over Nebraska Kearney. 

SEASON LEADERS
Pelzer leads the Golden Bears during her senior campaign batting .366/.460/.662. She has 12 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs this season. Monty is batting .350/.424/.513 with 28 hits, three doubles, two triples and two home runs. She has only struck out three times this season. 

Ava Blake is batting .266/.397/.297 with 17 hits and a triple during her freshman campaign. Bryleigh Dana is hitting .250/.313/.429 with 14 hits, a double and three home runs. 

On the mound, Bowne leads the Golden Bears with a 3.70 ERA. She's thrown two shutouts this season and three complete games. The sophomore has a team-high 27 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched. 

Dunlavy has a 5.31 ERA with a 4-5 record. She has 21 strikeouts in 55.1 innings pitched. Senior Erica McCullough has a 3.96 ERA in seven appearances. She's thrown 10 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched.

The Golden Bears have won three straight games against the Beavers and are 7-3 in the last 10 matchups. CSP won 19 out of 20 games to start the series. The Golden Bears are 24-4 all-time in neutral site games against Bemidji State.

Bemidji State is coming into the series after going 8-6 at THE Spring Games in Florida. The Beavers picked up a key 1-0 victory over No. 16 UIndy. 

Senior Alexa Christenson leads the Beavers this season slashing .345/.396/.440. She has 29 hits with five doubles and a home run. Senior Molly Houts is slashing .333/.439/.406 with 23 hits, three doubles and a triple. She also has 12 RBIs this season. 

Senior Aimee Christenson is slashing .328/.391/.345 with 19 hits and a double. She has seven RBIs this season. Senior Mariah Stevenson is slashing .325/.364/.398 with 27 hits, four doubles and a triple. Stevenson leads the Beavers with 14 RBIs. 

Freshman Kennedy Joachim has emerged as Bemidji State's ace on the mound with a 1.28 ERA in 71.1 innings pitched. She has a 7-3 record pitching eight complete games with a shutout. Joachim's ERA ranks second in the NSIC this season. 

Joachim has tossed 84 strikeouts this season, ranking third in the NSIC. Freshman Payton Prissel has also emerged with a 4.36 ERA in 43.1 innings pitched. She has 18 strikeouts this season. 

Head coach Jordan Petersen is in her fourth season with the Beavers. She has a 61-115 record entering this weekend with the Beavers.

Series Record: CSP 45, UMC 2

The Golden Bears have won three straight games against the Golden Eagles. Before the loss in 2022, CSP won 39 straight games against UMC. Concordia-St. Paul is 24-2 all-time in neutral site games. 

Minnesota Crookston enters this weekend after competing in the Space Coast Spring Games in Viera, Florida. The Golden Eagles went 7-5 during the trip. Before that, the Golden Eagles went 1-4 with a win over Newman (Kan.) at the Washburn Invitational. 

Freshman Hannah Trzinski leads the Golden Eagles slashing .400/.463/.457 with 28 hits and four doubles. The Stevens Point, Wisconsin native leads the team with 13 RBIs. She is tied for the 11th-best batting average in the NSIC. 

Freshman Chayse Doering is slashing .333/.413/.455 with five doubles and a home run. She has the only home run for Minnesota Crookston this season. Sophomore Rayna French has a .320 batting average with four doubles and 10 RBIs. Freshman Madisen Yandle is batting .313 with four doubles, a triple and eight RBIs. 

On the mound, junior Charlotte Dombrowski leads the team with a 1.95 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched. She ranks 10th in the NSIC in ERA. Dombrowski has 27 strikeouts this season and is allowing a .239 opposing batting average. 

Freshman Sydney McMurdie has also pitched 28.2 innings with a 2.93 ERA. She's thrown 15 strikeouts this season. Freshman Delaney Penner has pitched 25.1 innings with 17 strikeouts. The Golden Eagles have used nine different pitchers this season and six of them have pitched 20 or more innings. 

Ashton Sangster is in her first season as the head coach of Minnesota Crookston. She previously served as the assistant coach from 2022-24.
