CSP Lacrosse to open conference play at GLIAC newcomer Saginaw Valley State

Friday will mark the first meeting between the two teams

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (4-4) heads to University Center, Mich. to face the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State in their GLIAC opener at Robert C. Braddock Field set for Friday at 12 p.m.

The Golden Bears will play just a single game this week to wrap-up their five-game away series before returning home next week to start a trio of games on home turf. 

RECAP OF THE WEEK
Game One: MWSU 12, CSP 5
Four Golden Bears found the net in the loss including Sara Kaiser, Kayleigh Nelson, Anna Fisher and Maddie Westberg.

As a team, MWSU outshot CSP on goal 23-12 and forced 28 turnovers from the Navy and Gold. 

Katie Colleran got her third consecutive start in goal, making four saves to bring her season total to 18. Marge Lucio came in midway through the second quarter where she tallied season-high seven saves. 

Leading the Golden Bear defense was Natalie Brownfield who recorded four ground balls with four caused turnovers. Claire Flahaven contributed a big stand with two ground balls and three caused turnovers while accumulating four draw controls. 

Monson led the team in draw controls with five to bring her season total to 37. 

Game Two: QU 14, CSP 13 OT
Senior Anna Fisher had a career day for the Golden Bears, scoring a career-high six goals to earn herself a spot at number four for most goals scored in a single-game for the program. 

A 3-0 scoring run late in the fourth quarter from the Golden Bears was just enough to tie the game and force the Hawks hand in overtime.

Three minutes into overtime Quincy was able to score the game-winner and hand CSP the loss. 

It was a fairly even affair with the Hawks barely edging the Golden Bears 32-21 on shots and 9-8 on saves. 

Leading the CSP defense was Natalie Brownfield who once again saw a big defensive game for the Navy and Gold, recording three caused turnovers. Anna Palony led the team in ground balls with four. 

Katie Colleran got her fourth consecutive start in the net, making six saves to bring her season total to 24. Erika Holm came in for the third quarter where she made two saves before Colleran came back for the fourth and overtime. 

SEASON LEADERS
Susie Monson leads the GLIAC in total assists (15) which ranks her 19th in NCAA DII, assist per game (1.88) and draw controls per game (5.38).

Natalie Brownfield leads the GLIAC in caused turnovers per game with four. 

Anna Fisher ranks second in the GLIAC in shots on goal per game (5.63), total goals (26), shots per game (7.63), goals per game (3.25) and total points (30). 

As a team, the Golden Bears lead the GLIAC in assists per game (5.75) and caused turnovers per game (10.50). 

ABOUT THE CARDINALS 
In their first season as a program, Saginaw Valley State was picked to finish fifth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with four points. 

The Cardinals currently sit at 0-4 after being outscored 80-21 in their first four games of the season. 

SVSU is led by Gabby Parker who has scored a team-leading eight goals and nine points and goalkeeper Mikalia Stone who leads the GLIAC in saves per game with 8.25. 

HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND SVSU
The two programs have never met due to SVSU being a first-year program.
