Box Score QUINCY, Ill. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (4-4) fell in overtime to the Quincy Hawks 14-13 Sunday afternoon at QU Stadium in their final game of the weekend.
Senior Anna Fisher had a career day for the Golden Bears, scoring a career-high six goals to earn herself a spot at number four for most goals scored in a single-game for the program.
It was the Navy and Gold that got the scoring started early in the first quarter, Sara Kaiser scored her first goal of the game to earn the early 1-0 lead.
Sydney Smith and Susie Monson each added a goal of their own to earn CSP the 3-0 lead and show a commanding effort on the field.
The Hawks silence was quickly broke with a pair of back-to-back goals to jump back in and break the Golden Bears scoring run.
Goals from Fisher and Kennedy Bolander were the perfect response to the Quincy run and gave Concordia the 5-2 lead heading into the second quarter.
Quincy was not to be denied the goal anymore and rifled off another pair of goals to start the quarter.
Fisher broke into the Hawks run with her second goal of the day but was responded with another Quincy goal to which the senior answered right back.
Another pair of goals from the Hawks before the break tied the game for the first time and sent both teams into the break with work to be done.
Quincy came out fast and swinging in the third quarter, scoring a trio of goals to take their first lead of the day and put the Golden Bears on notice.
Fisher was able to break the run and score her fourth goal of the game but it wasn't enough for the Quincy offense that was unable to be contained in the third. The Hawks immediately responded with another goal to go up 11-8.
Bolander scored her second goal of the game with a 1:30 left in the third quarter to help the Golden Bears cut into the growing Hawks lead.
After a back and forth first five minutes of the fourth quarter with no team finding the net it was Kaysawn Carlson who broke the drought and scored her second goal of the season and bring the Navy and Gold within one.
Quincy had other ideas and once again scored a duo of goals to extend the lead 13-10.
A 3-0 scoring run from the Golden Bears was just enough to tie the game and force the Hawks hand in overtime.
Three minutes into overtime Quincy was able to score the game-winner and hand CSP the loss.
It was a fairly even affair with the Hawks barely edging the Golden Bears 32-21 on shots and 9-8 on saves.
Leading the CSP defense was Natalie Brownfield who once again saw a big defensive day for the Navy and Gold, recording three caused turnovers. Anna Palony led the team in ground balls with four.
Katie Colleran got her fourth consecutive start in the net, making six saves to bring her season total to 24. Erika Holm came in for the third quarter where she made two saves before Colleran came back for the fourth and overtime.
The Golden Bears will look to bounce back next week when they open up GLIAC play, facing the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley on Friday in University Center, Mich. Action will start at 12 p.m. at Robert C. Braddock Field.
