MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Despite the wintry weather outside, the Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams continued their indoor seasons at the Gopher Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday.
For the second week in a row, junior
Nyadio Chan broke the school record in the indoor 800-meter run, placing second with a time of 2:18.92. Her time was more than a half second faster than the CSP record she set last week, and her converted time of 2:17.34 currently stands as the eighth fastest in the NSIC this season.
The Concordia men were highlighted by senior
Davion Williams in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.09 seconds to shatter his personal record. His time is tied with teammate
Drake Daniels for fourth in the NSIC and 31
st in all of Division II this season.
Cadence Tanner continued her strong sophomore campaign, setting a personal record of 8.97 seconds to place second in the 60-meter hurdles while placing third in both the high jump and long jump with marks of 1.55 meters and 5.24 meters, respectively.
Junior
Dan Otto had a strong outing, setting personal records in both the shot put (16.19m) and weight throw (17.18m) to finish fourth in both events.
In the women's throws, freshman
Bernie Barnhardt had the best outing of her young career, finishing fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.99 meters and placing 8
th in the shot put with a mark of 12.28 meters, setting personal records in both events.
Jerry Chanzu picked up the lone event victory of the afternoon for Concordia, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.74 seconds.
Junior
Chidera Osuoha placed well in a pair of sprinting events, setting a personal record of 8.02 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish sixth and placing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.00 seconds.
The Golden Bears will head back to Mankato, Minn. next weekend, competing at the Maverick Premier hosted by Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday.
