ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams will stay local this weekend, competing at the Gopher Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday.
GOPHER CLASSIC MEET INFORMATION
The Gopher Classic is a single day meet, with all events taking place on Saturday. Various field events are set to begin at 11 a.m. while the track events will get underway with the men's mile run at 11:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears traveled to a pair of meets last weekend, competing at the Mark Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State and the Washburn Open hosted by Washburn University.
The Mark Schuck Open was a scored meet, with the Concordia men placing third out of 16 teams with 62 points and the women placing seventh out of 20 teams with 41 points.
A pair of school records fell in Mankato, with junior
Nyadio Chan clocking a time of 2:19.58 in the 800-meter run to beat Kalle Burney's 2018 record by seven hundredths of a second. On the men's side, freshman
Del Johnson set a new program record in the 300-meter dash, clocking a time of 34.87 seconds to beat the previous record of 35.29 seconds set by
Tarnue David just last season. Johnson also set a new personal record in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 49.31 seconds to win the event.
Freshman
Cam Mata continued to shave time off his sprints, setting a new personal record of 7.04 seconds in the 60-meter dash to place 8
th.
A pair of Golden Bear sophomores placed top five in the 500-meter dash, with
Vance Landa clocking a personal-best time of 1:08.14 to finish second and
Jacob Jensrud finishing in 1:09.93 to place fifth.
Freshman
Zay Acosta made his collegiate debut in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:00.99 to place fifth. Continuing the trend of impressive debuts, freshman
Andrew Alexander ran the first 5,000-meter run of his career and finished in 15:57.07 to place sixth.
Junior
Dan Otto also set a new personal record, placing fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 16.98 meters (55' 8.5").
Elsewhere at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan., senior
Drake Daniels finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.14 seconds. In the prelims, Daniels logged his fastest time this season with an 8.12-second clocking, the fifth fastest in the NSIC this season and tied for 36
th fastest in all of Division II.
Senior
Emmett Faltesek placed 10
th in the mile run at the Washburn Open, clocking the fastest time in the NSIC so far this season with a time of 4:09.66 to set a new personal record.
For the women, freshman
Addy Nelson competed in the 500-meter dash for the first time in her collegiate career, placing second with a time of 1:26.58.
The CSP relay squad of
Karlina Zimmerman,
Chidera Osuoha,
Nyadio Chan, and
Destiny Mattingly competed in the 4x400-meter relay, winning the event with a time of 4:08.67.
Jumper
Cadence Tanner had a season best performance in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5' 3.25") to place third.
Junior
Maya Lavendusky placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 12.78 meters (41' 11.25").
LAST TRIP TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
The Golden Bears' last indoor meet at the University of Minnesota was the Snowshoe Open on February 16, 2024.
In total, the Golden Bears collected 24 top-10 results with 11 inside the top five on the day.
Emmett Faltsesek took home the top spot in the mile as his time of 4:12.60 earned him an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Not to be outdone,
Drake Daniels came within 0.03 seconds of his school record in the prelims of the 60m hurdles before blowing past the record with a time of 8.06 seconds in the finals to take fifth in the event.
Destiny Mattingly grabbed a win of her own in the 200m as she finished in 25.77 seconds while she added a seventh-place result in the the 60m.
Cadence Tanner picked up three top-10 finishes on the day as her mark of 5' 2.25" in the high jump earned her second while she added finishes of sixth in the long jump and eighth in the 60m.
Tyrese Ossei claimed a third-place result in the high jump while
Karlina Zimmerman (400m),
Samara Jones (high jump) and
Ethan Blischke (800m) all registered fourth-place finishes in their respective events.
On Saturday at the Gene Glader Classic on the campus of Bethel, CSP's throwers collected 12 finishes inside the top 10 with eight results coming in the top five.
Esther Mensah's mark of 55' 5.5" resulted in the team's lone win at the event as she was followed by
Sarah Jeppesen in third and
Maya Lavendusky in fourth while Mensah and Lavendusky took third and fourth, respectively, in the weight throw.
Cade Feist took second with a distance of 51' 4.5" in the shot put while
Carter Krummen and
Keyshawn Pettis went back-to-back in fourth and fifth in the weight throw.
