MARYVILLE, Mo. - Concordia-St. Paul (2-3) held off Northwest Missouri State (5-8) on Friday afternoon at Bearcat Baseball Field, with
Koby McBroome hitting the go-ahead 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning in a 10-8 win.
The Golden Bears and Bearcats conclude tomorrow's series with a noon first pitch.
McBroome had a big day, going 4-6 with the eventual game-winning homer, three runs scored and three RBIs out of the leadoff spot.
Hitting behind McBroome,
Bennett McCollow had a big day, as well, hitting a pair of 2-run homers himself, going 2-3 with three runs, four RBIs and a pair of walks while extending his streak of safely reaching base (H, BB, HBP) to 19 games.
In the third spot in the lineup,
Noah Juliar had a 4-for-6 day at the plate including a double and a run.
The trio combined to go 10-15 at the plate with a pair of walks, seven runs and seven RBIs.
Kal Brohmer had a 2-run single and
Charlie Harms came off the bench to draw a pair of walks and score twice, and
Jack Setterlund had an RBI single out of the nine-spot, going 1-5.
The big offensive day for CSP gave the pitching staff the run support they'd need despite a strong start from
Fritz Meyer, who worked 4.0 strong innings, striking out six and allowing three runs but only one earned on three hits and a pair of walks.
Ollie Yuhas worked a pair of solid frames in the middle innings, allowing a run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts while pitching the fifth and sixth innings.
Jack Greenlun closed it out for CSP, working out of a jam in the eighth after entering with first and third and one out, he allowed an unearned inherited run from
Christian Lindow to score on a groundout before inducing an inning-ending infield pop out.
In the ninth inning with a 2-run lead, Greenlun struck out a pair and worked around a hit by pitch, getting the final out looking for the victory. He finished his line with 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out a pair while not allowing a hit or walk to six batters.
Carter Liezert was charged with the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing a run on a walk in relief for NWMSU.
The Bearcats were able to score eight runs despite only six hits, drawing five walks and capitalizing on three CSP errors.
