INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 11 Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team was featured in Wednesday's NCAA Central Region Rankings. The Golden Bears received the No. 2 seed in the first-ranked edition of the ranking.Â
No. 10 Pittsburg State (24-3, 16-1 MIAA) received the top seed in the ranking. The No. 1 seed hosts the NCAA Central Regional. The Gorillas take the top spot despite losing this past weekend to No. 6 Fort Hays State (24-2, 15-2 MIAA). Fort Hays State is the No. 3 seed in the region.
The Golden Bears were one of four NSIC teams featured in the rankings. Minnesota State (22-6, 18-4 NSIC) is ranked No. 5, No. 19 Southwest Minnesota State (25-3, 19-3 NSIC) is ranked No. 7 and Northern State (S.D.) (18-10, 15-7 NSIC) is ranked No. 8. CSP has wins over all three teams this season.
Concordia-St. Paul also defeated Missouri Western (17-8, 12-5 MIAA) in nonconference play. The Griffons are currently the No. 4 seed in the Central Regional. Southern Nazarene (20-6, 17-3 GAC) is rated No. 6, Harding (20-6, 16-4 GAC) is rated No. 9 and Nebraska Kearney (19-7, 12-5 MIAA) is rated No. 10.Â
The NCAA Central Region Tournament takes place March 14-17. The Golden Bears have not made a Central Regional since 2013-14 when CSP won the regional tournament to make the Elite Eight.
CSP starts NSIC Tournament play on Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m. in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Golden Bears await Wednesday night's winner between St. Cloud State (14-13, 11-11 NSIC) and Minot State (N.D.) (10-19, 9-13 NSIC) to determine their quarterfinal opponent.
