CSP lacrosse suffer first loss of the season

Fisher recorded her fourth straight hat-trick in loss

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team (3-1) fell to the Hawks of Rockhurst University 14-10 to suffer their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Concordia Dome. 

Anna Fisher continued her tremendous season, recording her fourth consecutive game with a hat-trick. With her three goals today, she brings her season total to 17 which leads the team. Fisher also tallied her second assist of the season to tally four points in the loss. 

Susie Monson once again shined for the Golden Bears, accumulating her 11th career hat-trick and second of the season while also adding a team leading 10th assist of the year. Her four draw controls led the team. 

Sophomore Erika Holm got her third start of the season in the net, making a season and career-high nine saves while facing a season-high 26 shots. 

Freshman Katie Colleran saw her first action as a Golden Bear, coming in at the start of the fourth quarter. She made four saves in her collegiate debut.

The game opened as a back and forth battle with Monson scoring the first goal of the day to get the early 1-0 lead for CSP. 

Rockhurst was right on the Golden Bears heels, scoring just two minutes later to even the score. 

Fisher scored her first goal of the game a minute and a half later to get Concordia back on top once again with an assist by Jenna Hamann

The hawks were right there and answered back in just minutes to bring the game to the second tie. 

After another exchange of goals by both teams to even the score for the third time at 3-3, Morgan Haapala scored her first goal of the season with 33 seconds left to send the Golden Bears to the second quarter up 4-3. 

Rockhurst came back from the break with an offensive fire, the Hawks went on a six-goal scoring spree to which they held CSP with no room to fight back. 

After 22 minutes of being held quiet, Kaci Kotschevar scored her third goal of the season in the third quarter to get the Golden Bears back in action. 

Another pair of goals from Rockhurst grew the lead 11-5 with eight minutes to go in the third quarter. 

The Golden Bears were not going to go down without a fight and rifled off four consecutive goals to bring the game back in sight, down two goals 11-9 at the end of the third quarter. 

The fourth quarter was controlled by Rockhurst who was looking to control the final minutes by scoring three straight goals and forcing consecutive Golden Bear turnovers. 

Kennedy Bolander scored her third goal of the season with just under three minutes left to make the final score 14-10 in the Hawks favor. 

Six Golden Bears found the net in today's game including Fisher, Monson, Haapala, Kotschevar, Bolander and Sara Kaiser who recorded her eighth goal of the season. 

Meghan McGowan once again led the defense with four ground balls and three caused turnovers to bring her season totals to 14 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. 

As a team, the Golden Bears saw just nine draw controls and a season-high 25 turnovers in the loss. 

The Hawks were led offensively by Reagan Danner and Madison Powell who combined for seven goals. 

The Golden Bears will take a short break before returning to action on Mar. 4 where they will take on Maryville (Mo.) to start their spring break road trip.
