Golden Bears win third straight to stay perfect on the season

Eight players found themselves scoring in the win

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse team defeated William Jewell 19-11 in a Friday night clash at the Concordia Dome to stay perfect on the season with three straight wins.

With their third straight win, CSP is 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2020, where they started the season with four straight wins.

Anna Fisher scored her third consecutive hat-trick of the season, accumulating four goals in Friday night's win to bring her season total to 14. She also led the team in shots with eight while tallying seven shots on goal.

Junior Susie Monson became just the eighth Golden Bear to total five assists in a single-game with her performance. She totaled a team-high six points while adding her sixth goal of the season with a free-position goal in the first quarter.

Shelby Hansen and Sara Kaiser each recorded a hat-trick of their own. Kaiser's three goals tonight bring her season total to six. Hansen recorded her first three goals of the season to record her second career hat-trick.

Along with Fisher, Monson, Hansen and Kaiser also scoring for the Golden Bears included Freshman Kaci Kotschevar who recorded her first collegiate goal and Sydney Smith who tallied a pair of goals to bring her season total to six.

Kennedy Bolander and Kaysawn Carlson wrapped up the high-scoring Golden Bear offense, each with their first goals of the season.

The Cardinals started off fast and ready, scoring the first four goals of the game in the first seven minutes to put CSP on the edge of their seats.

CSP jumped out of their seats, capitalized on Cardinal fouls and proceeded to score seven consecutive goals to take the lead and never look back.

Two goals from William Jewell in the second quarter were not enough to retake the lead.

Concordia reached the net three more times in the second quarter to go up 10-6 going into the break and held the shot advantage 20-13.

Once again the Golden Bear train came in hot, scoring three consecutive goals to open the third quarter. A singular goal from the Cardinals was not enough before Kotschevar scored her second goal of the game and extended the lead 14-7.

A two-goal surge from William Jewell to try and cut down the Concordia lead was short lived with CSP rifling off a trio of goals to put the game out of reach in the third quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter the Cardinals scored a pair of goals to try and stay alive but the Golden Bear defense would have none of it and the flying offense would score one last pair of goals to end the game 19-11.

Meghan McGowan and Smith each led the team with three caused turnovers while Monson and Fisher both recorded five draw controls.

Erika Holm got her second start of the season in the net where she recorded a season-high eight saves to earn her third straight win. Marge Lucio came in at the start of the fourth quarter where she recorded her third straight game with three saves.

As a team, the Golden Bears led the Cardinals with a 37-25 shot advantage and held a season-high 22 draw controls to William Jewell's 12 and saw a season-high 29 ground balls.

The Cardinals were led offensively by Elle Eastwood and Olivia Fornelli who combined for seven goals.

The Golden Bears will look to keep the strong momentum going, playing at home again on Sunday Feb. 23 in the Concordia Dome to take on the Hawks of Rockhurst University. Action will start at 12 p.m.
