Golden Bears set for final tune-ups before conference championships

CSP to compete at the Snowshoe Open, Tostrud Classic, and Gene Glader Classic this weekend

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams will have their final tune-up before the NSIC Indoor Championships this weekend, competing at a trio of meets with a majority of the teams competing at the Snowshoe Open hosted by the University of Minnesota while a select group of throwers will compete at the Tostrud Classic hosted by St. Olaf and the Gene Glader Classic hosted by Bethel.

SNOWSHOE OPEN INFORMATION
The Snowshoe Open, held at the University Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Minnesota, will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday morning with the men's shot put. The final competition of the day will be contested at about 7:45 p.m. CT with the 4x400m relays. Admission to the meet is free.

USTFCCCA EVENTSQUAD RANKINGS
The Golden Bear men rank in the top 15 in a trio of events in the latest USTFCCCA EventSquad rankings, with CSP's 60-meter hurdlers ranking 10th in Division II with an average time of 8.36 seconds and the men's weight throwers ranking 15th with an average of 66.12 meters. Concordia secured a ranking in an additional event this week, coming in at No. 13 in the 200-meter dash with an average time of 21.79 seconds.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears competed at a pair of meets in Mankato, Minn. last weekend, competing at the Maverick Premier #1 on Friday and the Maverick Premier #2 on Saturday.

On Friday, The men were highlighted by junior Will Sacay who secured a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter run, clocking a time of 8:45.66. His converted time of 8:39.62 ranks 11th in the NSIC this season. Junior Ethan Blischke also placed well in the 3,000 meter, finishing third with a personal best time of 8:50.11. Junior Andrew Boyum continued the trend of personal bests in the 3k, clocking a time of 8:57.02 to place fifth.

Senior Drake Daniels clocked another NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.15 seconds to place third.

In the throws, junior Dan Otto set a personal record in the weight throw with a distance of 17.72 meters (58' 1.75"), good for third place in the event. Otto also competed in the shot put, placing fourth with a toss of 15.42 meters (50' 7.25").

For the Golden Bear women, junior Maya Lavendusky set a new personal record in the shot put with a distance of 13.10 meters (42' 11.75"), placing her third in the 27-competitor field. Her mark of 13.10 meters currently stands as the eighth best in the NSIC this season. Freshman Bernie Barnhardt also placed in the top 10 in the shot put, finishing in ninth with a distance of 12.11 meters (39' 8.75").

Senior Destiny Mattingly set a new personal record in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 8.00 second to place 18th in the preliminaries.

On Saturday, freshman sprinter Del Johnson continued his standout first-year campaign, breaking another school record with a 21.70-second clocking in the 200-meter dash to win the event. His time was exactly 0.1 seconds faster than the previous record of 21.80 seconds set last year by Thomas Dietel. Johnson's converted time of 21.32 seconds is an NCAA provisional qualifier, ranking second in the NSIC and 15th in all of Division II this season. Johnson also competed in the 60-meter dash, placing second with a personal best time of 6.86 seconds.

Senior hurdler Davion Williams also secured another NCAA provisional qualifier, clocking a personal-best time of 8.08 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to place first in the preliminaries before being disqualified in the finals. That time ranks fourth in the NSIC this season and is tied for 31st in all of Division II.

Junior Maya Lavendusky shattered her personal record in the shot put, using a toss of 13.47 meters (44' 2.5") to claim an individual victory in the event. That distance is good for third in the NSIC so far this season. Freshman Bernie Barnhardt was just behind her in second place, also setting a new personal record with a distance of 12.59 meters (41' 3.75").

Junior Nyadio Chan clocked her second-fastest time of the season in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:19.14 to claim fifth place.

Senior distance runner Matthew Krimmel claimed another first-place finish for Concordia, winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:52.44.

Junior thrower Dan Otto place in the top four in a pair of events, finishing third in the shot put with a mark of 15.81 meters (51' 10.5") and fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 17.22 meters (56' 6").

Junior Jeffrey Odamtten cleared a season-high 1.74 meters (5' 6.5") in the high jump, securing a seventh-place finish.

The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Karlina ZimmermanChidera OsuohaNyadio Chan, and Destiny Mattingly finished fifth with a time of 4:02.24.

LAST TRIP TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
The Golden Bears last competed the University of Minnesota on February 8, participating in the Gopher Classic.

In that meet, junior Nyadio Chan broke the school record in the indoor 800-meter run, placing second with a time of 2:18.92. Her time was more than a half second faster than the CSP record she set last week, and her converted time of 2:17.34 currently stands as the eighth fastest in the NSIC this season.

The Concordia men were highlighted by senior Davion Williams in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.09 seconds to shatter his personal record. His time is tied with teammate Drake Daniels for fourth in the NSIC and 31st in all of Division II this season.

Cadence Tanner continued her strong sophomore campaign, setting a personal record of 8.97 seconds to place second in the 60-meter hurdles while placing third in both the high jump and long jump with marks of 1.55 meters and 5.24 meters, respectively.

Junior Dan Otto had a strong outing, setting personal records in both the shot put (16.19m) and weight throw (17.18m) to finish fourth in both events.

In the women's throws, freshman Bernie Barnhardt had the best outing of her young career, finishing fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.99 meters and placing 8th in the shot put with a mark of 12.28 meters, setting personal records in both events.

Jerry Chanzu picked up the lone event victory of the afternoon for Concordia, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.74 seconds.

Junior Chidera Osuoha placed well in a pair of sprinting events, setting a personal record of 8.02 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish sixth and placing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.00 seconds.

The Golden Bears will head back to Mankato, Minn. next weekend, competing at the Maverick Premier hosted by Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday.
