Golden Bears open 2026 slate on the road against Winona State

CSP begins the new year in Winona, looking for their third straight win.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team returns to action, opening the 2026 portion of its schedule on the road Saturday against Winona State, with tip-off set for 3 p.m.

Concordia is looking to pick up where they left off, having won two in a row heading into the holiday break after a pair of road wins over Wayne State and Augustana. The 2-0 road trip improved the Golden Bears record to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in the NSIC, with CSP currently sitting in the eighth place in the conference standings.

Last Time Out 
The Golden Bears closed out 2025 with a pair of road victories over Wayne State and Augustana. Winning both contests by double digits, taking down the Wildcats by a score of 69-59 and defeating the Vikings 80-67. 

Thursday night's win over Wayne State was highlighted by a season-high 21-point night from Ashley Schuelke. The junior guard was efficient, going 7-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the arc. 

Lauren Wilson recorded her sixth double-double of the season, with 16 points and 12 rebounds on the night. Lauren Feddema was CSP's leading scorer off the bench, posting a career-high 15 points, while shooting 4-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-4 from three-point range. 

The Golden Bears held a slim one point lead at the end of the opening quarter, before opening things up in the second, using a 13-0 run to take a 28-15 lead. The Wildcats narrowed the gap in the third, cutting the Concordia lead to just five. 

CSP closed things out in the final quarter though, shooting 72% from the field in the fourth quarter, to earn a 10 point road win. 

On Saturday, the Golden Bears capped off 2025 with a 12 point win over Augustana in Sioux Falls. The win was punctuated by a pair of 22 point performances from Leah Dengerud and Lauren Wilson

Dengerud posted a season-high in points, while grabbing 10 boards to post her first double-double of the season as well. The senior was reliable from the floor, shooting 8-of-10 and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. 

For Wilson it was her fifth 20+ point performance of the season, the junior forward was 8-of-13 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Wilson also pulled down 8 boards, with 4 steals and 2 blocks on defense. 

Lydia Haack dropped 16 points, to go along with 5 assists and 3 steals. Haack was strong at the charity stripe as well, going 5-of-6. 

The Golden Bears held a five point lead through one quarter of play, steadily building on it in the second to go up 38-24 at the half. A 15-7 run in the third helped CSP carry a double digit advantage into the final quarter, going on to win, 80-69. 

Golden Bears by the Numbers 
Through 12 games this season the Golden Bears are averaging 75.5 points per game this season, which ranks fourth in the NSIC. On defense CSP is allowing an average of 70.3 ppg which places them 11th in the conference.

On the glass the Golden Bears are averaging 39.9 rebounds per game, good for second in the NSIC. While opponents are averaging 38.6 rpg against CSP this season. 

The Golden Bears are shooting 41.7% from the field as a team this season, good for 11th in the NSIC. Opponents are shooting 40.4%from the floor, placing CSP seventh in terms of opponent FG percentage in the conference. 

The Golden Bears are hitting a 32.2% clip from three-point range this season, which ranks ninth in the NSIC. 

On defense CSP ranks second in the conference in blocked shots at 4.17 per game, while averaging 9.25 steals per game which is fourth in the NSIC. 

Lauren Wilson leads the Golden Bears in scoring, averaging 21.3 points per game this season, which ranks fourth in the NSIC and ninth Nationally. Lydia Haack is second on the team at 16.8 ppg, placing her ninth in the NSIC. 

Leah Dengerud is averaging 11.6 ppg, Ashley Schuelke is averaging 7.3 ppg and Avery Moeller is the Golden Bears leading scorer off the bench at 5.9 ppg. 

Wilson also leads the team and the NSIC in rebounding at 10.1 rebounds per game. Lydia Haack is second on the team at 5.6 rpg, Emma Mommsen is third averaging 5.1 boards per game. Leah Dengerud is averaging 4.4 rpg and Ashley Schuelke is averaging 3.2 rpg this season. 

Lydia Haack is leading the NSIC at 6.8 assists per game, which is good for second in all of Division II. Haack also leads the team in steals per game at 2.5, placing her third in the NSIC. 

Lauren Wilson ranks sixth in the NSIC in shooting percentage this season, going 87-of-174 (50%) from the field this season. Leah Dengerud ranks eighth in the conference in three point shooting, hitting on 31-0f-83 (37.3%) attempts from beyond the arc. 

Series History: Winona State

Series Record: CSP 41, WSU 22
The Golden Bears and Warriors have faced off 63 times, with CSP leading the series 41-22 dating back to 1977. With Concordia holding a 35-15 record against Winona State in conference matchups. 

The two squads last met up on, Nov. 25 to open conference play, with the Warriors coming out on top at the Gangelhoff Center, 77-75 in overtime. Lydia Haack hit a desperation half-court shot at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, with Leah Dengerud coming up with a pivotal shot to give the Golden Bears a one point lead late in the extra period. But Winona State came away with the final three points to come out on top. 

Laure Wilson led the way with 19 points, adding 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Lydia Haack scored 18 points, with 10 assists to record a double-double. Emma Mommsen and Leah Dengerud each tallied double digits with 12 points a piece. 

About the Warriors
Winona State sits at 9-4 through 13 games this season with a 6-1 record in NSIC play. The Warriors enter Saturday's game riding a five game win streak after closing out 2025 with a 49-40 win over Wayne State on Dec. 20. Winona State currently sits in third place in the NSIC and second in the South Division. 

WSU ranks 12th in the conference in terms of scoring offense averaging 69.5 points per game this season. In terms of scoring defense the Warriors are second in the NSIC, holding opponents to 63.4 ppg. 

The Warriors are seventh in the conference in rebounding, averaging 38.4 boards per game as a team, while leading the conference in opponent rebounds at 30.0 per game. 

In terms of shooting percentage, the Warriors are sixth in the NISC, hitting at 43.4% this season. From beyond the arc Winona State is ninth in the conference, converting on 40.9% of their three point attempts. 

Hailey Markworth leads the Warriors in scoring this season, averaging 14.2 points per game, good for 15th in the NSIC. Vivica Bretton is second on the team in scoring at 11.2 ppg, while Megan Schuman is averaging 10.9 a game and Sadie Jarmolowicz is averaging 10.0 a game. 

Markworth also leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 a game which ranks 12th in the NSIC. Schuman is averaging 6.4 rpg, Jarmolowicz is averaging 5.5 and Bretton is averaging 4.8 boards per game. 

Megan Schuman is the Warriors most efficient shooter this season, going 51-of-94 (54.3%) from the floor. Hailey Markworth is 69-of-142 (48.6%) shooting this season, placing her eighth in the NSIC among qualified players. 

Sadie Jarmolowicz leads the Warriors in three-point shooting, hitting on 27-of-64 (42.2%) of three-point attempts, which ranks third in the NSIC.
