ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 9 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (22-4, 17-1 NSIC) secured its 11
th consecutive win on Saturday afternoon, sweeping MSU Moorhead (14-13, 7-11 NSIC) in conference play on senior day at the Gangelhoff Center.
The Golden Bears were dominant on both sides of the net, hitting an impressive .487 with 44 kills and just six errors on 78 swings while holding the Dragons to .049 hitting with 24 kills and 20 errors on 82 attempts. Concordia also controlled the match in nearly every other statistical category, leading in assists (41–23), digs (35–25), blocks (8–2), and aces (8–1).
Senior
Ellie Sieling powered the Golden Bear offense with a match-high 14 kills on .481 hitting, adding four digs and an ace for a total of 15 points. Fellow senior
Cassie Sieling anchored the defense with eight digs and chipped in three service aces, three assists, and one kill while
Natalee Rolbiecki contributed six digs and two aces.
Junior
Mehlayna Straub continued her efficient run at the net with 11 kills on a .563 clip to go along with a solo block, while sophomore
Makenna Nold added nine kills, five digs, and three total blocks.
Kaelyn Snoozy and
Julia Gordon provided strong front-row support with four and three kills, respectively, while combining for six blocks.
Concordia's two setters remained steady as
Reagan Hickey dished out 20 assists with six digs, and
Audrey Waterman tallied 15 assists, four digs, and two block assists.
The teams went back-and-forth early in the opening set with Concordia clinging to an 11-10 lead before the Golden Bears kicked into high gear and took firm control, hitting .524 with 11 kills and no errors en route to a 25-14 victory. CSP maintained its rhythm in set two, swinging .484 with 17 kills and claiming a 25-12 win. The home squad closed out the sweep in dominant fashion once again in the third set, hitting .462 and serving up four aces in the final frame to secure another 25-12 triumph.
With the victory, Concordia extended its overall winning streak to 11 matches and has now won 30 consecutive sets in NSIC play. The win also improved CSP's all-time record against MSU Moorhead to 38-8, with Concordia winning each of the last 23 meetings.
The match marked the final regular season home contests in the careers of three CSP seniors:
Natalee Rolbiecki,
Cassie Sieling, and
Ellie Sieling, who were each honored in a senior day ceremony held before the match.
MSU Moorhead was led by Brielle Riess with five kills and 10 digs, while Raiah Mandell added four kills and two digs. Madi Colby paced the MSUM offense with 10 assists.
Concordia will hit the road for the final two matches of the regular season next weekend, closing it out at Bemidji State (7-19, 4-14 NSIC) on Friday and No. 25 Minnesota Duluth (17-8, 10-8 NSIC) on Saturday.
