ST. PAUL, Minn. – Behind strong performances from both Cassie and
Ellie Sieling, the No. 9 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (21-4, 16-1 NSIC) defeated Minnesota Crookston in straight sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-14) on Friday evening at the Gangelhoff Center to extend its winning streak to 10 matches.
The Golden Bears hit an efficient .325 with 56 kills and only 15 errors on 126 swings while limiting the Golden Eagles to .148 hitting with 24 kills and 8 errors on 108 attacks. Concordia also held decisive advantages in assists (52–24), digs (69–48), and aces (7–2).
Senior
Cassie Sieling turned in a career performance in the back row for the Golden Bears, tallying 5 assists and 26 digs — the highest dig total of her career in a three-set match and tied for the fifth-most in program history for a three-set contest.
Natalee Rolbiecki also reached double figures on defense with 10 digs and a match-high three aces.
Senior
Ellie Sieling led the CSP offense with a match-high 16 kills on .351 hitting while adding 13 digs and two service aces for her seventh double-double of the season. With two aces in the match, Sieling moved into the top three in program history with 157 in her career, trailing only Jessica Lucia (165) and Hope Schiller (173).
Junior
Mehlayna Straub was dominant at the net once again, posting 12 kills on a .524 clip along with three total blocks. Sophomore
Makenna Nold added 13 kills and three digs, while
Kaelyn Snoozy and
Julia Gordon chipped in seven kills each.
The Bears' two-setter system continued to click as
Reagan Hickey and
Audrey Waterman combined for 46 assists. Hickey dished out 24 assists with eight digs, while Waterman tallied 22 assists, three digs, and two block assists.
The Golden Bears wasted no time establishing control as they jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the opening set, hitting .415 with 18 kills and just one error in a 25-14 win. The Golden Bears had to fend off a more competitive Crookston squad in set two, trading points through five ties and three lead changes before pulling away late for a 25-20 win. CSP sealed the sweep with another dominant offensive effort in the third, swinging .485 while limiting UMC to just .097 hitting to close the match out with a 25-14 victory.
The win marked Concordia's 10th straight overall and was the ninth straight sweep in conference play in a streak that dates back to October 11. CSP improved its all-time record against Minnesota Crookston to 40-3 and has now won 40 straight in the series.
Minnesota Crookston was led by Madison Carsten and Lexi Scharold, who each tallied six kills. Carizma Muth recorded 15 digs and added four kills, while setters Dana Melby and Ellery Ehresmann combined for 20 assists.
Concordia will return to the Gangelhoff Center on Saturday afternoon to host MSU Moorhead (14-12, 7-10 NSIC) and recognize its three seniors playing in their final home match of the regular season.
