Wilson tallies fourth double-double as Golden Bears cruise past Huskies at home

The Golden Bears cap out of conference play with a win behind Lauren Wilson’s second 30 point performance of the season.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Behind a 34 point effort from junior forward Lauren Wilson the Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball (4-2, 0-1) team got back in the win column Friday night at the Gangelhoff Center. Closing out conference play with a 78-61 win over Michigan Tech (4-1,0-0), handing the Huskies their first loss of the season in the process. 

Wilson recorded her fourth double-double and second 30-plus point game of the season, scoring 34 and grabbing 13 rebounds. The junior also added 3 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal to the stat sheet, shooting 12-of-20 from the field and 2-of-3 from three point range.

Wilson's 34 points tie a career-high set early this year in the season opener against Fort Hays State. 

Leah Dengerud scored 12 points for the Golden Bears, adding 9 rebounds and 3 steals, the senior was 4-0f-11 from the floor. Avery Moeller tallied double digit points off the bench for Concordia with 11, going 4-of-10 from the field. 

For the third time this season Lydia Haack tallied 10 assists, coming up one board short of the double-double with 9 rebounds, while scoring 8 points in 34 minutes of action. 

As a team the Golden Bears went 28-of-68 (41.2%) from the floor and 10-of-30 (33.3%) from beyond the arc. On defense CSP limited the Huskies to 21-of-56 (37.5%) shooting on the day. 

CSP got off to a quick start grabbing an 8-2 lead in the first two minutes of play after a Lydia Haack three ball. Avery Moeller knocked down a three-point attempt off the bench to make it an 18-12 advantage later in the quarter, with Concordia holding a 21-18 lead at the end of the first period. 

With the score tied at 26 in the second quarter, Lauren Wilson came up with a pair of layups in the paint to give CSP a 30-28 lead. Concordia closed out the half with a 14-6 run, capped off by a Lauren Wilson three at the top of the arc to give the Golden Bears an 11 point lead at the break. 

Wilson continued to have the hot hand in the third, drawing a foul on a three-point attempt and knocking down all three attempts at the charity stripe. 

Haack hit another three later in the third to extend the lead to 15, with Avery Moeller hitting a jumper near the end of the quarter to make it a 67-51 lead for the Golden Bears. 

Concordia kept pace in the fourth, regaining the double digit advantage on a Haack jumper. With three and a half to play, Lauren Wilson drove the lane, finding the rim and finishing to extend the CSP lead to 15 and tie a career and season high in points with 34. 

Leah Dengerud hit from three to put the finishing touches on a 78-61 victory for the Golden Bears. 

CSP made the most of their opportunities in the 17 point win, capitalizing on the Huskies 13 turnovers, with 14 points off turnovers on the night. 

The Golden Bears came up big inside as well, scoring 34 points in the paint to Michigan Tech's 22. CSP won around the glass as well, out rebounding the Huskies 46-36, with 20 offensive rebounds and 14 second chance points. 

Concordia is back in action at the Gangelhoff Center, Wednesday night, Dec. 3 for a conference matchup against St. Cloud State. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
