Golden Bears set for home opener against Winona State Tuesday night

After a 2-0 road trip and a 3-1 start, the Golden Bears kick off their home slate with a pair of games against Winona State and Michigan Tech.

ST. PAUL, Minn.  — The No. 17 Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball (3-1) team opens its home slate this week with a pair of matchups against Winona State and Michigan Tech. The Golden Bears home and conference opener will take place Tuesday night, Nov. 25 at the Gangehoff Center against Winona State, tip-off is set for 6 p.m. 

 CSP will host an out of conference matchup on Black Friday, Nov. 28 against Michigan Tech at the Gangelhoff Center, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.

Purchase Tickets in Advance Online
Fans are highly encouraged to purchase tickets online at cspbears.com/tickets prior to game day. All ticketed events for the 25-26 academic year will utilize the Vivenu online ticket platform found at that link and fans must scan a mobile ticket to enter. Tickets will still be sold on site on game day but purchases are card-only and include additional fees. The best way for fans to make their game day entry as smooth as possible is to purchase tickets online in advance. CSP Students, Faculty and Staff will be able to download their free passes through Vivenue.

Last Time Out 
Concordia earned two wins last week against out of conference opponents Truman State and Maryville, to improve to 3-1 on the season. 

On Thursday afternoon the Golden Bears earned a 12 point road victory over the Truman Bulldogs in Kirksville, Missouri. CSP held a 37-28 advantage at the half, before going 18-of-30 (60%) from the field in the second half pulling away late for a 82-60 victory. 

Lydia Haack was the standout scorer on the afternoon with a season-high 25 points, going 10-of-19 from the field, adding 7 boards and 6 assists while providing 6 steals on defense. 

Forward Lauren Wilson also put together another strong performance with 19 points and 9 rebounds while going 8-of-12 from the field. 

The Golden Bears completed the 2-0 road trip with a 82-69 win over Maryville in St. Louis. 

CSP was once again led by senior guard Lydia Haack, who posted 23 points with 8 rebounds and 5 assists against the Saints. The guard once again provided a spark on defense as well with 2 steals and 1 block. 

Lauren Wilson recorded her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The junior also provided 4 assists and 2 blocks, while going 12-of-16 from the charity stripe. 

Two other Golden Bears came up with double digit point totals in the win as well, with Leah Dengerud and Ashley Schuelke each scoring 11. Avery Moeller provided 9 points off the bench going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. 

Haack earns Player of the Week Honors, Wilson named to Shining Five
After averaging 24.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists Lydia Haack earned NSIC South Player of the Week Honors. This is the first time this season that the senior has earned NSIC Player of the Week Honors and the second time in her career she has received the award. 

After earning South Division Player of the Week last week, Lauren Wilson was named to the Shining Five this week. Wilson averaged a double-double across two games last week with 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. 

Golden Bears by the Numbers 
As a team this season CSP is averaging 79.8 points per game while holding opponents to an average of 69.3 points per game. The Golden Bears currently rank third in the NSIC in scoring offense behind Bemidji State who is scoring an average of 81.0 points per game through one game played. 

Concordia currently has a scoring margin of 10.5 points per game, placing them fifth in the NSIC. 

From the field CSP is 111-of-267 (41%) this season placing them eighth in the conference, the Golden Bears have held opponents to 95-of-245 (38.8%) from the field this season. Which is also eighth in the NSIC this season. 

As a team CSP is averaging 43.0 rebounds per game this season, outrebounding opponents by an average of 5.0 this season. 

Concordia's leading scorer through four games this season is Lauren Wilson, averaging 24.5 points per game for the Golden Bears. Wilson is currently third in the NSIC in scoring, while leading the conference with 12.8 rebounds per game. 

Lydia Haack is second on the team in scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game, placing her sixth in the NSIC in scoring. The senior guard is also averaging 5.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. Her assists per game total currently leads the conference, while ranking fourth in the NSIC in steals per game at 2.8, giving her the best assist to turnover ratio at 2.8. 

Leah Dengerud is third on the team with 12.0 points per game, Avery Moeller is providing 7.5 PPG off the bench for the Golden Bears. 

Lauren Wilson currently leads the team in field goal percentage 32-of-59 (54.2%) from the field, which ranks seventh in the NSIC. Lydia Haack is second in the squad, going 27-of-65 (41.5%) from the floor. Haack also leads in three point shooting going 8-of -17 (47.1%) from beyond the arc this season.

Avery Moeller is CSP leading shooter off the bench, going 11-of-27 (40.7%) from the field. 

Home Sweet Home 
The Golden Bears will return to the Gangelhoff Center Tuesday night for an NSIC matchup against the Winona State Warriors. CSP went undefeated on the Gangehoff Center floor last season, amassing a record of 14-0 at home in 2024-25. 

The last time the Golden Bears lost at home was Feb. 10 2024 against Southwest Minnesota State, over the last two seasons CSP is 24-2 at the Gangelhoff Center. 

Series History: Winona State

Series Record: CSP 41, WSU 21 
The Golden Bears and Warriors are familiar foes, facing each other on 62 previous occasions with the first meeting occurring on Dec. 12, 1977. As conference opponents the Golden Bears are 35-14 against the Warriors dating back to Dec. 11, 1999. 

In the last 10 matchups CSP has the upper hand going 8-2 in that span with the last win coming at the Gangelhoff Center last November. The Golden Bears came away with a 30 point victory last season, 78-48.

Senior center Lindsey Becher scored 18 points with 6 rebounds and 3 blocks as CSP improved to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. 

Lydia Haack recorded her sixth career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists, a then career-high assist total which was broken early this season when she had 12 against Missouri Western. 

Leah Dengerud and Mikayla Kanenwisher also scored double digits, recording 10 points each in the win. 

CSP raced to an early lead, thanks to a 32 point first quarter and a 22 point second period to take a commanding 54-20 lead into the half. 

As a team the Golden Bears shot 29-of-63 (46%) from the field and 10-of-27 (37%) from beyond the arc. While the Warriors went 19-of-63 (30.2%) from the floor and 8-of-33 (24.2%) from three. 

About the Warriors 
Winona State is off to a 2-3 start this season, opening the 2025-26 season with a 63-60 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State. Most recently the Warriors dropped a 62-47 contest at Maryville University on the road Saturday. 

Through five games Hailey Marworth is Winona's leading scorer, averaging 11.2 ppg this season. The senior also leads the team in rebounding with 6.2 boards per game. 

Sadie Jarmolowicz is averaging 8.6 ppg and 3.8 rpg, Breah Golden, Vivica Bretton and Megan Schuman are each averaging 7.0 plus ppg this season. Schuman and Bretton are also averaging 4.0 and 4.2 boards per game as well. 

Markworth is the Warriors leading shooter, going 23-of-46 (50%) from the field. Bretton is also shooting 50% from the field this season. 

As a team Winona State is averaging 60.0 points per game while allowing 59.6 ppg. The Warriors are currently 10th in points per game in the NSIC.

As a team the Warriors are shooting 72-of-168 (42.9%) from the field, which ranks sixth in the NSIC. 

Series History: Michigan Tech 

Series Record: CSP 6, MTU 8 
The Golden Bears and Huskies have met on 14 previous occasions with Michigan Tech holding an 8-6 record over Concordia. The first matchup occurred during the 1978-79 season with the Huskies coming out on top, 83-37. 

The two schools have met on a regular basis with the last 13 matchups happening over the course of the last 16 years. The Golden Bears have won three of the last four matchups dating back to 2019. 

CSP earned a hard fought 63-30 win over Michigan Tech on the road last season. Concordia trailed 48-39 heading into the fourth quarter, rallying after a Leah Dengerud three pointer and a pair of free throws cut the deficit to four. 

CSP went on a 10-0 run, grabbing a 55-53 lead on a Lydia Haack three point bucket. Haack scored five of the final eight points to seal the 63-60 win for the Golden Bears. 

Haack led the way for Concordia, scoring 19 points, while Lindsey Becher recorded a 16 point, 15 rebound double-double. 

Leah Dengerud scored 14 points and Ashley Schuelke came up with 5 points off the bench. 

As a team the Golden Bears went 22-of-66 (33.3%) from the field, while going 15-of-18 (83.3%) from the free throw line. The Huskies were 23-of-60 (38.3%) shooting. 

About the Huskies
Michigan Tech is off to a 4-0 start this season, with wins over Lewis, Upper Iowa, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The Huskies last win came on Friday in a narrow 69-66 win over St. Cloud in Houghton, Michigan. 

The Huskies are led by Alyssa Wypych who is averaging 13.3 ppg this season, sophomore guard Ella Mason is also averaging 13.o ppg. 

Soraya Timms and Janie Tormanen are also averaging double digits, with 11.0 and 10.8 ppg respectively.

Michigan Tech's leading rebounder is guard Kendall Standfest with 7.0 boards per game, while averaging 8.3 ppg. Tormanen is averaging 6.3 rpg, Wypych contributing 6.0 boards a night. 

Tormanen has been the Huskies most efficient shooter as well, going 20-of-34 (58.8%) from the field. Timms is also shooting over 50% this season, going 16-of-31 (51.6%) from the floor. 

As a team Michigan Tech is averaging 71.5 ppg, while holding opponents to 55.0 ppg, a margin of 16.5 points. 

The Huskies are shooting 101-228 (44.3%) as a team this season, while holding opponents to 79-225 (35.1%) shooting. 

The head coach of the Huskies is Sam Clayton who is in her eighth season at the helm. She has helped lead the Huskies to two NCAA Tournament appearances in her eight seasons as head coach.
