Golden Bears set for two game road swing in Missouri

The Concordia-St. Paul women’s basketball team looks for a pair of road wins this week against Truman and Maryville.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The No. 17 Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team continues its out of conference slate with a pair of road matchups. The Golden Bears will begin the two game road trip on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 20,  in Kirksville, Missouri against Truman State, with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m. CSP makes their way to St. Louis on Friday, Nov. 21,  for a matchup against Maryville, with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.

Last Time Out 
The Golden Bears opened the 2025-26 season with a pair of games against MIAA opponents at the Central Region Preview in St. Joseph, Missouri. CSP went 1-1 over the weekend with a 84-78 loss to No. 9 Fort Hays State on Friday night at Civic Arena. 

Lauren Wilson put together a career night on Friday, with a 34 point, 14 rebound double-double performance. Wilson went 10-of-22 (45.5%) and 14-of-19 (73.7%) from the charity stripe, setting new career highs in both points and rebounds. 

Lydia Haack dropped 18 points with 5 assists in the loss, Leah Dengerrud put up 11 points and 2 rebounds as well. 

CSP rebounded on Saturday taking down Missouri Western 78-64 to earn their first win of the season. 

For the second consecutive game Lauren Wilson recorded a double-double, putting up 27 points and 14 rebounds. The junior forward was an efficient 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the floor and 4-of-6 (66.7%) from three. 

Lydia Haack also recorded a double-double in the win, with 11 points and a career high 12 assists. Leah Dengerud went 5-of-11 from the field including 3-of -8 from three, scoring 16 points in the win. 

Avery Moeller came up big off the bench, dropping 10 points and shooting 40% from the field. 

Wilson earns Player of the Week, Haack named to shining five
Lauren Wilson was named NSIC South Division Player of the Week on Tuesday morning. Wilson averaged 30.5 points and 14.0 rebounds at the Central Region Preview over the weekend. This is the first time that Wilson has earned NSIC Player of the Week Honors. 

On Friday night Wilson posted a career-high with 34 points and 14 rebounds against No. 9 Fort Hays State. The junior forward followed up her career best double-double performance with 27 points and 14 rebounds against Missouri Western. 

Lydia Haack was named to the NSIC's shining five after averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game at the Central Region Preview. Haack recorded a 11 point, 12 assist double-double in the win over Missouri Western. Haack's 12 assists set a new single game record for the junior guard. 

Golden Bears in the polls 
Concordia-St. Paul dropped to No. 17 in the latest WBCA poll, after beginning the season ranked 11th in the preseason poll. The Golden Bears received 169 points in WBCA poll and are one of two NSIC teams ranked in the poll. 

Minnesota State jumped seven spots in the poll, moving from 15th in the preseason poll to No. 8 this week. The Mavericks are off to a 4-0 start after a 91-49 win over UW-Eau Claire last Friday. 

Pittsburg State came in as the highest ranked team in the Central Region, moving up five spots to No.2 after a 2-0 start. The Gorillas got a pair of wins over NSIC opponents Northern State and Minnesota Crookston this past weekend. 

Golden Bears by the numbers 
Through two games Lauren Wilson is CSP leading scorer, the junior forward is averaging 30.5 points per game this season. Wilson also leads the team in shooting percentage, going 21-of-39 (53.8%) from the field. Wilson's 30.5 PPG also leads the NSIC through two games, the junior also leads the conference in rebounding at 14.0 boards per game. 

Lydia Haack is averaging 14.5 PPG this season, while leading the conference in assists per game with 8.5. Haack is currently second in the NSIC in three-point field goal percentage, going 4-of-7 (57.1%) from beyond the arc this past weekend. 

Senior guard Leah Dengerud is averaging 13.5 PPG this season. Sophomore transfer Avery Moeller is averaging 9.0 PPG off the bench for CSP this season, while leading the team in steals with 5, ranking her ninth in the NSIC with 2.5 steals per game. 

Emma Mommsen is second on the team in rebounds per game at 7.5, placing her 13th in the NSIC in rebounding. 

As a team the Golden Bears are averaging 78.0 points per game this season, while holding opponents to an average of 74.0 points per game. CSP 78.0 PPG place them third in the NSIC on offense in the early going. 

CSP is shooting 38.2% from the field as a team through two games, while averaging 42.5 rebounds per game. Defensively the Golden Bears are also forcing 17.0 turnovers per game, with a 5.00 turnover margin. 
 

Series History: Truman 

Series Record: CSP 3, TSU 0 
The Golden Bears and Bulldogs have done battle on three previous occasions with CSP having the upper hand in all of them. The first matchup between the two schools came back in the 2000-01 season with CSP coming away with a slim one point victory, 66-65. 

Most recently the two squads met last season at the Gangelhoff center, with Concordia coming away victorious 68-57. Concordia's bench came up big in the win, outscoring Truman 40-5. 

Leah Dengerud was the Golden Bears leading scorer dropping 14 points. Lauren Wilson came off the bench, dropping 13 points and grabbing five boards. Lindsey Becher and Megan Gamble were both big on the glass grabbing 11 and 10 rebounds. 

The Golden Bears held a 27-16 lead in the second quarter before putting together a 8-0 run in the final two minutes off the half, to go up 35-26 at the break. 

CSP used a 10-0 run to pull away further in the third quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 25-12 in the period. Lauren Wilson came up with a key layup late in the fourth to give CSP an 11 point lead as the Golden Bears went on to win 68-57. 

About the Bulldogs
Truman opened its 2025-26 season last weekend at the GLVC/G-MAC, the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the year Friday night against Ursuline College, 86-63. Before taking a 62-60 loss to Cedarville University on Saturday. 

Mariann Blass is Truman's leading scorer through two games this season, the junior guard is averaging 14.5 points per game and 5.o rebounds per game. Blass scored 18 points in the win over Ursuline going 6-of-10 from the field. 

Morgan Miller is averaging 12.0 points per game for Truman, with forward Mallory Ortt averaging 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Bulldogs this season. 

Avery Rausch and Braylee Rogers are averaging 9.0 and 8.0 points off the bench for Truman. 

As a team the Bulldogs are shooting 42.1% from the field and 37% from three, averaging 73 points per game. On defense Truman has allowed an average of 62.5 points per game, with 35.5 rebounds, 9.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. 

The Bulldogs are coached by Thoe Dean who is in his seventh season at the helm, accumulating a 97-73 record over that span. 
 

Series History: Maryville

Series Record: CSP 3, MU 0
The Golden Bears and Saints have squared off three previous times, with CSP coming out on top in all of them. The first meeting between the two schools occurred in 2015, with Concordia getting a neutral site win over Maryville, 76-72 in Springfield, Missouri. 

The two will meet for the third consecutive season in 2025, after the Golden Bears came away with a narrow 83-80 overtime victory at the Gangehoff Center last November. 

With the Golden Bears trailing 71-68 late, Lydia Haack was fouled on a three point attempt. The then junior guard knocked down all three attempts from the charity stripe to send the game to overtime. 

In the extra period CSP went 6-for-8 from the free throw line, outscoring the Saints 12-9 to come away with a three-point win. 

Lydia Haack dropped 24 points and recorded a then career-high 10 assists in the win. The shooting guard went 10-11 from the free throw line, while shooting 7-12 from the field. 

Leah Dengerud went 4-of-12 from the field and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe, scoring 15 points with 3 assists and 4 boards. Lauren Wilson provided 9 points off the bench, shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. 

As a team the Golden Bears shot 28-of-65 (43.1%) from the field, while limiting the Saints to 26-of-68 (38.2%). CSP went 18-of-23 (78.3%) from the line to secure the win. 

About the Saints 
Maryville opened the 2025-26 season with a 65-61 win over UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin last Friday. The Saints moved to 2-0 with a 52-38 win over Roosevelt University on Saturday. 

Annika Pluemer is the Saints leading scorer through two games, averaging 12.0 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. On defense Pluemer has also averaged 3.0 steals per game as well. 

Lindsey Schadewalt is averaging 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Saints, Claire Lueken is averaging 9.0 points per game as well. 

As a team the Saints are 38-of-107 (35.5%) from the field and 11-of-39 (28.2%) from three. Maryville has limited opponents to 35-of-113 (31%) from the field and 12-of-58 (20.7%). 

On offense Maryville is averaging 58.5 points per game, while holding opponents to an average of 49.5 points per game. 

The Saints are coached by Britta Hand, who is in her third season at the helm for Maryville. Hand has accumulated a 35-24 in her time with the Saints and a 70-48 record in five seasons as a head coach. Prior to Maryville, she spent three seasons as the head coach at Briar Cliff University.
