ST. PAUL, Minn. - Five Golden Bears scored in the double digits in No. 21 Concordia-St. Paul's (16-2, 10-2 NSIC) 71-51 win over Bemidji State (4-12, 2-10 NSIC). Megan Gamble picked up her second-career double-double and Emma Mommsen scored a career-high 14 points in the victory.
Gamble's double-double included a season-high 11 points while grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. She shot 3-3 from the field including 1-1 behind the arc and 4-5 (80%) from the charity stripe. Her first-career double-double was on Dec. 31, 2022, against Minnesota State when she scored a career-high 19 points.
Mommsen's 14 points beat her career-high of nine points that she did last year against Bemidji State and earlier this season against Truman State (Mo.). She finished 7-10 (70%) from the field while grabbing a season-high seven rebounds.
Junior guard Lydia Haack also scored 14 points shooting 7-12 (58.3%) from the field. She also dished out three assists and had a steal. Senior center Lindsey Becher scored 12 points while grabbing five rebounds. She also tied a season-high with five blocks.
Leah Dengerud finished with 10 points and tied her career-high in assists with six. Those six assists beat her season-high of five assists against Northern State on Jan. 4. She also was a team-best +28 on the court.
CSP had a bit of a rough start to the game, shooting 6-22 (27.3%) in the opening quarter. Despite that, the Golden Bears led 16-12 with Haack and Becher accounting for 14 of those 16 points.
Up 23-21 with 4:13 left in the second quarter, Concordia went on a 13-3 run to end the half. This included outscoring the Beavers 7-0 in the final 1:34 with Gamble hitting CSP's first 3-pointer of the game. CSP was 0-10 from behind the arc before making that 3-pointer and led 36-24 at halftime.
The Golden Bears kept that late momentum rolling in the third quarter outscoring Bemidji State, 23-7. Concordia shot 9-18 (50%) from the field in the third quarter and held the Beavers to 3-17 (17.6%). Dengerud scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter with Gamble adding five points, Haack adding four points and Mommsen scoring four points.
The fourth quarter was highlighted by Mommsen scoring eight points with five rebounds. She also had a steal and score dribbling the ball down the court and putting it in with a layup for her 10th point to break her career-high.
Lauren Wilson added four points and three rebounds for CSP. Mikayla Kanenwisher dished out four assists while scoring two points. Julia Bengtson and Ashley Schuelke each scored two points.
Concordia-St. Paul finished the game 28-73 (38.4%) from the field and 3-22 (13.6%) from behind the arc. That is CSP's lowest 3-point percentage in a game this season by almost 20%. The Golden Bears shot 12-13 (92.3%) from the free-throw line. CSP is 58/63 (92.1%) from the free-throw line through five games in 2025.
Bemidji State was led by Erin Barrette with 10 points. Sydney White scored six points with six rebounds. Aubrey Heyer had six points with four rebounds. Rachel Koenig scored four points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Beavers shot 18-56 (32.1%) from the field and 4-18 (22.2%) from behind the arc. That is the lowest 3-point percentage the Golden Bears have allowed this season.
Concordia outscored Bemidji State 44-22 in the paint, 15-2 on second-chance points, 15-5 on fast breaks and 18-12 off of turnovers. Both team's benches scored 22 points each. The Golden Bears outrebounded the Beavers 43-40 and had seven turnovers while Bemidji had 20.
The Golden Bears are now 10-0 at home this season, tying 2008-09 for the third-best start at home in program history since 1999-2000. The 2018-19 team started 11-0 at home and the 2004-05 team finished a perfect 14-0 at home.
Concordia-St. Paul remains tied with No. 23 Southwest Minnesota State (16-2, 10-2 NSIC) for second place. No. 10 Minnesota State (17-2, 13-0 NSIC) remains in first place. Northern State (11-7, 8-4 NSIC) is in fourth place.
The Golden Bear women's basketball team is back in action next weekend for a trip up north against Minot State (N.D.) (5-14, 4-8 NSIC) and UMary (N.D.) (9-7, 6-6 NSIC). Tip-offs are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 in Minot and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 in Bismarck.
