ST. PAUL, Minn. - The ninth-ranked Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (8-4, 3-1 NSIC) hosted Minnesota Crookston (3-8, 0-3 NSIC) in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at the Gangelhoff Center on CSP's Homecoming Saturday, cruising to a 3-0 sweep of the Golden Eagles.
Concordia won all three sets decisively, claiming 25-13, 25-16, and 25-14 victories to complete the sweep. With the win, the Bears improved to 38-0 all-time against Minnesota Crookston, with 34 of the 38 wins being sweeps.
The Golden Bears found themselves trailing 4-1 early in the opening set, but it was all CSP from that point as the Bears took 11 of the following 13 points and never looked back, eventually winning the set 25-13. As a team, Concordia hit .273 with 18 kills in the frame while UMC hit just .086 with six kills. Middle blocker
Claudia Stahlke neared double figures early, tallying eight kills on .538 hitting in the set.
Concordia controlled the pace of play in set two, working out to an early 11-3 lead and maintaining control throughout the duration of the set in a 25-16 win. The Bears hit .529 with 19 kills as a team in the second set, with
Sophia Andersen leading the charge with six kills on .600 hitting. Libero
Cassie Sieling had 9 digs in the set.
Trailing 6-5 in the third, CSP dominated the rest of the set with a 20-8 scoring edge from that point to secure a 25-14 win and take the match in straight sets. As a unit, CSP hit at a .256 clip with 13 kills while the Golden Eagles hit just .091 with eight kills.
For the match, Concordia held advantages in nearly every statistical category as they outhit UMC .422 to .248, held a 50-28 advantage in kills, and tallied nine service aces to UMC's one.
Sophia Anderson neared a double-double with 11 kills, seven digs, and three service aces while hitting .310.
Stahlke logged 14 kills on an efficient .565 hitting percentage, leading the team in both categories.
Cassie Sieling finished just one dig off her career-high set the previous night, finishing with 23 digs and two service aces.
Ellie Sieling was both an offensive and defensive asset for the Bears, tallying seven kills and nine digs to go along with a match-high four service aces.
Setter
Teagan Starkey finished with 46 set assists and seven digs, also adding two total blocks, including CSP's lone solo block.
Mehlayna Straub and
Makenna Nold added nine and eight kills, respectively.
The Golden Bears will hit the road for a pair of NSIC matchups next weekend, taking on Minot State on Friday before heading to UMary on Saturday.
