Harbo, Gustaveson and Allen set for US Olympic Team Trials

Golden Bear trio looks to book places at 2024 Summer Olympics

6.20.24

EUGENE, Ore. – The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams will be well represented at the 2024 US Olympic Team Trials taking place from June 21-30 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field as three Golden Bears in Arika Harbo, Marcus Gustaveson and Ben Allen are all expected to compete.

The trio will face off against the best athletes from across the nation as they look to earn a place at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris this fall.

Marcus Gustaveson, who competes with the Velaasa training group, is set to make his fourth US Championships appearance and second US Olympic Trials appearance in the discus this week. He currently ranks 63rd in the world and ninth in the US, according to World Athletics rankings. Gustaveson put up his best performance at a US Championships competition when he finished ninth, and he enters the competition with the fourth-best seed mark.

Ben Allen, who runs with the Empire Elite training group, will also be making his fourth trip to a US Championships competition as he will compete in the 800m and 1500m this week. He heads into the competition ranked 145th and 152nd in the world in the 800m and 1500m, respectively, while sitting in 19th and 27th, respectively, in the US. Allen's best finish in a US Championship came in the 2023 US Outdoor Championship, where he finished 29th in the 1500m. He also put up the third fastest time in US history in the 1000m in February.

Arika Harbo is set to become the first ever athlete to represent the CSP track & field team at the US Olympic Trials as she also heads to her fourth US Championships competition. Fresh off her fourth NCAA Division II Championship in the high jump just a few weeks ago, she enters the competition ranked 204th in the world and 24th in the US in the high jump. Harbo finished in sixth in the US Indoor Championships in both 2023 and 2024.
