INDIANAPOLIS - The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (37-13, 19-7 NSIC) is featured in the third and final NCAA Division II Softball Regional Rankings. The Golden Bears are 10th in the rankings for the eight-team regional tournament.
CSP is one of two NSIC teams in the regional rankings as Augustana (42-13, 27-1 NSIC) is ranked fourth. The Golden Bears have a 27-10 in-region record while the Vikings have a 42-11 in-region record. CSP was eighth last week in the region rankings.
Concordia-St. Paul has made the NCAA tournament five times, with the last appearance being in 2012. The Golden Bears made the Elite Eight in 2005 and reached the Sweet Sixteen in 2004, 2006 and 2012.
The 41-team NCAA Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC). Automatic bids are awarded to the tournament champions from each conference with the final five spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The championship provides for a field of 64 teams. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a double-elimination tournament on May 9-11. The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites on May 15-16. The finals will include the eight super regional winners. The national champion will be determined in a best-of-three final series.
The NCAA softball selections will be announced on www.NCAA.com on Monday, May 6. The NCAA Championships are set for May 19-25 at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Orlando, Florida.
The
NSIC Softball Tournament is set for May 1-4 at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; hosted by Augustana University. The top 10 teams in the NSIC standings will participate in the single-elimination tournament.
