Marker posts best two-round finish of his career for men’s golf at NSIC Preview

Junior golfer finishes +1 to tie for eighth place at Adams Pointe Golf Club

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team was led by junior Tommy Marker finishing 145 (+1) at the NSIC Preview Invitational to finish tied for eighth place. This was Marker's best two-round score of his career as he battled the mid-30-degree weather at Adams Pointe Golf Club on Tuesday. 

After shooting 70 (-1) on Monday, Marker followed it up with a 75 (+3) on Tuesday. He finished the day with two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey on a hole-five par four. The junior was the clubhouse leader for the Golden Bears squad that finished 10th as a team with a 616 (+40) total score. 

Junior Brandon Sperling tied his Monday score shooing 76 (+4) tying for 32nd with an overall score of 152 (+8). Senior Ben Rasinski rebounded on Tuesday with a score four strokes better than on Monday shooting 77 (+5), finishing with a two-round score of 158 (+14). Sophomores Trey Timm and Chase Camilli each shot 79 (+7) to each finish with a two-round score of 161 (+17). 

Senior Hunter Robinson tied for 29th shooting a 151 (+7) over the two rounds. Robinson shot 75 (+3) on Tuesday with 15 pars. Junior Thomas Gutzmer finished tied for 68th with a two-round score of 159 (+15). 

Winona State won the team race shooting 582 (+6) as a team. William Jewell came in second with a score of 588 (+12) and Rockhurst finished in third place with a score of 594 (+18). This tournament serves as a preview for the NSIC Championships that take place at Adams Pointe Golf Course later in the season on April 19-21. 

The Golden Bears finished three strokes behind Minnesota Crookston in 11th and four strokes behind Upper Iowa in 10th. CSP beat Bemidji State in 13th place by three strokes as the Beavers shot 619 (+22). 

Three golfers tied for first place shooting 141 (-3) over the two rounds. Marius Dosiere of Missouri Western State, Ben Laffen of Minnesota State and Max Brud of Minnesota State all tied for the tournament lead. Brud competed as an individual and did not count towards the Maverick's team score. 

The Golden Bears are back in action next week at the Showdown at Shangri La in Afton, Oklahoma. The meet hosted by Rogers State takes place on April 1-2 at Shangri La Golf Club.
