ST. PAUL, Minn. - This weekend, Concordia-St. Paul will embark on its third different state tour during a 6-game road swing that concludes non-conference play. CSP (4-5) will first face William Jewell (1-5) for a Friday night contest at 6 p.m. in Liberty, Missouri before heading to Kansas City to face Rockhurst (5-2) on Sunday at noon.
The games will also be Concordia's sixth and seventh against the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Concordia carries a 2-3 record against the GLVC, falling to the first, fourth, and seventh-ranked teams by non-conference record, while defeating the fifth and sixth-best teams - all played at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium. This weekend's affair will be CSP's first road trip to the GLVC this year, as Concordia has split trips to Colorado to face the RMAC and Ohio to face the GMAC, and will now face the third and eighth teams by non-conference record in the GLVC, both located in Missouri.
The Golden Bears will be facing Rockhurst for the sixth time, holding a 4-1 all-time record, and will be meeting William Jewell for the first time. CSP won the first four in the series against Rockhurst including road wins in 2017 and 2019, before home wins in 2020 and 2022. Rockhurst secured its first win over Concordia last year in 2023, as CSP is 2-1 in road games at Rockhurst.
The Golden Bears continue to be led by defender
Claire Flahaven and midfielder
Susie Monson. Flahaven sits 10th in the nation with a GLIAC-leading 3.00 caused turnovers per game and adds 3.11 ground balls per game, ranking third in the GLIAC. Monson ranks 33rd in the country on the draw with a league-high 5.22 draw controls per game. Monson also ranks second offensively in points (32) and goals (25). During CSP's road trips, Monson has broken the school record for draw controls in a game (15) and set a new career-high with seven goals, third-most in a game in team history.
Cayla Jungwirth has been a consistent scorer, as well, ranking fourth in the GLIAC with 25 points, third in the GLIAC with a team-leading nine assists (one more than teammate
Hailey Hartlage who ranks fourth in the GLIAC) and sixth in the GLIAC with 16 goals.
In goal, freshman
Marge Lucio leads the GLIAC with 54 saves, ranks in the top-40 of Division II in goals against average (33rd, 10.90) and ground balls per game (32nd, 3.25) while teammate
Erika Holm has worked in quality minutes in the cage with a 9.14 goals against average in 105 minutes across four games, winning her first collegiate start, adding 11 saves to Lucio's 54. Holm (.407) and Lucio (.406) also have nearly identical save percentages.
Following this weekend's road trip to Missouri, the lacrosse team will have Easter weekend off to end March before returning home to open conference play against GLIAC members Davenport and #11 Grand Valley State on April 5-7 at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium.
