NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse (3-5) dropped its first of two games in Ohio this afternoon, falling 14-3 at Walsh University (4-2).
Concordia will head to the northeastern part of the state to face Lake Erie on Saturday at 11 a.m. central time.
The Golden Bears looked strong early, with
Kennedy Bolander and
Cayla Jungwirth scoring five and seven minutes into the contest for a 2-0 Golden Bear lead.
But the Walsh defense clamped down, boasting one of the best in the Great Midwest Conference with the reigning GMAC Defensive Player of the Year, a first-team All-GMAC goalie and another All-GMAC first team selection.
Concordia wouldn't score again until 3:29 to play in the fourth quarter, as
Hailey Hartlage found
Anna Fisher to snap a 13-0 run by Walsh.
The Golden Bears were firm in draw controls, with only a -2 deficit (9-11), but committed 23 turnovers to Walsh's 15, with Walsh firing 36 shots to CSP's 15.
Fisher led CSP's effort on the draw with four draw controls while
Meghan McGowan led the defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls, with
Claire Flahaven leading the team with three ground balls and adding one caused turnover.
Rachel Black led Walsh with five goals while Katie Coomes had four goals and three assists.
