Golden Bear lacrosse set for two home games this weekend

Concordia returns to the Concordia Dome for second and third of a 5-game homestand

2.14.24

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This weekend, Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse hunts for its first victory, bringing a pair of opponents from Illinois to the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium, starting with Quincy on Friday at 6 p.m. before facing Lewis on Sunday at noon.

It's the season opener for Quincy, who will then head to Northern Michigan on Sunday, while Lewis will start their season on Friday at Northern Michigan before coming to CSP on Sunday.

Last year, Quincy and Lewis finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the seven-team Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), with Quincy going 6-11 overall (1-5 GLVC) and Lewis finishing at 4-9 overall (0-6 GLVC). In the 2024 GLVC Preseason Poll, Quincy was picked sixth, with Lewis in seventh in what is now an 8-team league with the addition of William Jewell (Mo.).

CSP already squared off with preseason fourth-place Missouri Western on Sunday, falling 14-11 to the Griffons in the season opener for each club.

In the season opener, Taylor Preece led the scoring output with a hat trick and an assist (four points) while three others had 3-point performances with Cayla Jungwirth making her CSP debut with two goals and an assist, and Hailey Hartlage and Anna Fisher each tabulating a goal and a pair of assists. The defensive unit was sparked by Claire Flahaven tying the school record with six caused turnovers, adding three ground balls, and Meghan McGowan's four ground balls in front of freshman goalie Marge Lucio's eight saves. Susie Monson also added a 2-goal performance on the attack, securing five draw controls in the middle.

The Golden Bears are 5-0 combined all-time against Lewis (3-0) and Quincy (2-0).

Concordia has faced Quincy once in St. Paul, a 20-5 win in 2022 before last year's 11-10 road win in Quincy, Illinois. The Hawks are now a fifth-year program with their top seasons being a 6-10 finish in 2022 and 6-11 in 2023.

CSP has faced Lewis once in St. Paul, a 20-6 win in 2020, and all three contests have been decided by 9-plus goals. They last met in 2021, a 13-3 CSP win in Romeoville, Illinois. In a bit of trivia, the teams were members of the same conference in 2019 when Lewis was a first-year program and an affiliate member of the GLIAC, finishing 1-11 in the conference, tied for ninth in the 9-team league with Maryville, also now a member of the GLVC.

DOME SWEET DOME
A unique facility, the Golden Bears have enjoyed dome field advantage with the bubble engulfing the Sea Foam Stadium turf during the winter months. All-time, Concordia is 19-12 at the Concordia Dome, compared to a 3-7 record when the dome is down and playing at home in the open air Sea Foam Stadium. Overall, CSP boasts a 22-19 home record and is 48-54 overall in the eighth year of sponsoring women's lacrosse as a varsity sport. At one time, Concordia had won nine straight home games at the Concordia Dome, spanning parts of four seasons (3/17/19 to 2/18/22).

HOW TO WATCH ONLINE WITH FloSports
For the second year in a row, CSP lacrosse games will be carried online through FloSports, the official live stream provider of the GLIAC. FloSports is a paid subscription service where users are able to stream live sporting events on their desktop, tablet or mobile phone using the latest version of Chrome (recommended), Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge; or by downloading the FloSports app from the App Store (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV), Google Play (Android phones and tablets), Roku Channel Store (All Roku devices) and Amazon Fire (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick).

CSP's lacrosse production with FloSports will feature a 720p broadcast with a single camera elevated from the sideline at midfield with the play-by-play audio from professional broadcaster Dan Flanagan, a broadcasting graduate from Fordham University in New York.
