Golden Bears set for regular season finale at Wayne State

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday at noon, Concordia-St. Paul (2-8, 2-7 NSIC) closes out its 2024 season with an away game at Wayne State (6-4, 5-4 NSIC) at Bob Cunningham Field at Memorial Stadium for the 35th-annual Egg Bowl Game.

Saturday in Wayne is headed towards a mild 63-degree high, warming considerably from a Friday overnight low of 32. But it will be windy, with SSW winds of 20-30mph and mostly sunny conditions.

LISTEN TO THE COACHES SHOW
The Coaches Show with Shannon Currier is back on the Twin Cities airwaves for a fifth season, once again hosted by Wally Langfellow of Minnesota Score. The show airs following the Minnesota high school football game of the week, typically on Friday evenings in the 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. hour on KYCR 1440 AM radio, available in the Twin Cities metro area.
 
The show typically features two segments with Coach Currier along with a segment with Langfellow joined by a pair of student-athletes. This week's radio interview guests are senior punter Parker Dahlman and sophomore safety Machai Campbell.
 
For fans who miss the show or are outside of the radio station's Twin Cities reach, the entire show is accessible via the CSP Bears Podcast, available in Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and Google Play Music. It will typically be uploaded late Friday night (after the initial air time) or Saturday morning prior to the game. Search 'CSP Bears' into your favorite podcast provider!

2024 TEAM CAPTAINS
CSP head coach Shannon Currier features rotating team captains each week for the sixth year in a row in 2024. Captains are selected by the coaching staff based on performance on the field and as a leader in practice, meetings and day-to-day activities.

This week's game captains are seniors Taylon Hensley (OG) and Jaylin Richardson (RB) on offense, and seniors Brayden Hilgemann (LB) and senior McKinley Egland-Young (CB) on defense.

SERIES HISTORY: WSC 12, CSP 11
Concordia and Wayne State will meet for the 24th time in a tightly played series. The teams have split the last four meetings but WSC has won the last two.

Concordia is 5-6 in 11 trips to Wayne America, dropping their last trip 48-21 in 2022, but winning the matchup before that 28-21 in 2019.

Concordia won four of the first five in the series and held a 6-2 record between 1999 and 2006.

The only time CSP won back-to-back trips to Wayne State was 2010 (17-14) and 2013 (28-24) and the only time CSP lost back-to-back trips to Wayne was 2015 (17-20) and 2017 (23-27).

Head coach Shannon Currier holds a 6-4 in 10 games against the Wildcats, winning all four from 2000-03 while going 2-4 in his return from 2016-present.

Currier holds a 2-2 record in four road games at WSC.
