Soccer announces six incoming freshman for the 2025 season

Golden Bears add six after graduating eight in 2024

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia- St. Paul soccer head coach Steve Bellis has announced six incoming freshmen for the 2025 season on National Signing Day 2025.  

The 2025 signing class includes Maddison Balashaitis (Ankeny, Iowa / Ankeny Centennial HS), Hannah Carroll (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral HS), Natalie Flynn (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo HS), Ava Hopper (Weston, Wis. / DC Everest HS), Brooke Nelson (Waunakee, Wis. / Waunakee HS) and Izzy Sipe (Shoreview, Minn. / Centennial HS). 

Bellis on the 2025 class: "As always this is an exciting day and great opportunity to take a peek into our program's future. The 2025 class is certainly packed with creativity, goal scoring potential and athletic ability." Bellis added, "We also feel we are bringing in more excellent student-athletes who will add to our team quickly both on and off the field."

Maddison Balashaitis (D, 5-8, Fr., Ankeny, Iowa / Ankeny Centennial HS / Sporting Iowa)

Ankeny Centennial High School: A-three year varsity letter winner … was named First-Team All-Conference, All-Tournament team, First-Team All-CIML Conference and team captain in 2024 … Second-Team All-CIML Conference in 2023 … Honorable Mention All-CIML in 2022 … tallied three goals, one assist, seven points, 19 shots and 10 shots on goal in the 2024 season … helped lead her team to three state appearances and a 2022 State Championship … also played basketball … involved in National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes … has earned three academic letters. 

Personal: Plans to major in finance at CSP … has two younger sisters. 

Bellis on Balashaitis: "Maddie can operate as a central defender with good athletic ability and is a good reader of the game. She has the composure on the ball to play our style. Playing ECNL will give her the speed of play we look for in recruits."

Hannah Carroll (D, 5-7, Fr., Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral HS / SC Del Sol)

SC Del Sol: Recorded two goals and eight assists in spring of 2024 … helped lead her club team to be one of six teams to qualify for GA Nationals … team has been named the Southwest Conference Champions for three consecutive years. 

Personal: Plans to major in exercise science at CSP … aspires to be an athletic trainer one day… her father played golf at Drake … older brother plays baseball at Kirkwood College.

Bellis on Carroll: "This attack minded full back will fit into our soccer philosophy. She can join in the offense and is dependable with her defensive duties in the big moments. Her high level club experience will help her adapt well."

Natalie Flynn (F/MID, 5-4, Fr., Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo HS / Legacy FC)

Buffalo High School: A four-year letter winner for the Bison … named All-State in soccer the past two years … in 2024 tallied 20 goals and eight assists … helped lead her team to a 12-2-5 record in 2024 … also lettered in track. 

Personal: Plans to major in biochemistry at CSP … has four brothers. 

Bellis on Flynn: "Nat is a very balanced and naturally technical player. She is very creative and is willing to take players on and be successful. She has a great workrate and will be an important member of this class."

Ava Hopper (F, 5-7, 5-7, Fr., Weston, Wis. / DC Everest HS / Wisconsin United)

DC Everest High School: A four-year varsity letter winner … named All-State Honorable Mention as a junior … First-Team All-Conference as a sophomore and junior … All-Conference Honorable Mention as a freshman … has tallied 26 goals and 37 assists in her high school career to this point … helped lead her team to three conference championships and two regional championships. 

Personal: Plans to major in either psychology or sports communications with a minor in business … mother played NAIA volleyball … father played NAIA soccer … her grandpa and aunt both ran DI track … has two younger brothers. 

Bellis on Hopper: "A natural born goal scorer and has the nose to find the back of the net. Her versatility across the front line is something we liked in the recruitment process. We are excited to start working with Ava."

Brooke Nelson (MID, 5-8, Fr., Waunakee, Wis. / Waunakee HS / Madison 56ers)

Waunakee High School: A soccer letter winner … named Second-Team All-Conference as a junior … as a sophomore was named the Most Improved Player on the varsity team … was named MVP for the Freshman team … has accumulated nine goals and nine assists in the last two seasons … helped lead her team to two conference championships, two regional championships, a 2024 sectional championship and trip to the state tournament … lettered in academic achievement … involved in DECA, HOSA and FCA. 

Personal: Is undecided on a major at CSP … mother and father both played soccer at UW-Stevens Point … has two younger brothers. 

Bellis on Nelson: "This athlete will help marshall the midfield and has the physical presence to dominate. Her range of passing set her apart from the other midfielders we recruited. We are super excited about Brooke."

Izzy Sipe (F/MID, 5-4, Fr., Shoreview, Minn. / Centennial HS / St. Croix Academy)

Centennial High School: A four-year letter winner … named All-State and All-Conference … has tallied 25 goals and 12 assists … helped lead her team to two conference championships … four section championships appearances and two championships … three section appearances and two section championships … 2021 state championship appearance … lettered in track and field … was involved in christian youth group and robotics. 

Personal: Plans to major in nursing at CSP … aspires to be a nurse practitioner in the future … has one older and one younger sister. 

Bellis on Sipe: "Izzy brings the creativity that makes defenders nervous, she glides with the ball and will give us the ability to unlock defenses in the NSIC. Izzy has the grit and determination to step straight into our level of play."
