NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams registered a season-best 11 wins at the Ole Opener on Saturday on the campus of St. Olaf.
The Golden Bears combined for 53 finishes in the top 10, including 33 top-five results, on the day.
The men's team combined for 29 of those top-10 finishes and six of the 11 wins as they picked up four victories on the track and two more in the field events.
CSP dominated the short-distance events as they claimed four of the top five spots in the 60m and all five in the 200m.
Tarnue David picked up wins in both events with a time of 6.91 seconds in the 60m and a time of 22.47 seconds in the 200m. He was joined in the top three in both events by
Thomas Dietel (second in the 60m and third in the 200m) and
Jerry Chanzu (second in the 200m and third in the 60m).
Drake Daniels picked up an individual win of his own in the 60m hurdles as his time of 8.43 seconds took the top spot while
Calder Erick,
Payton Peterson,
Cullen Heminover and
Priestly Jibunor finished the 4x400m relay in 3:27.05 to grab the victory.
Erick chipped in a win in the long jump as he cleared 21' 4" while
Cade Feist's distance of 49' 4.5" added another win.
The women followed close behind with 24 top-10 finishes and five wins in the meet.
Short-distance events proved to be a strong point for the women's squad as well as they claimed wins in the 60m, 200m, 400m and 600m.
Destiny Mattingly took home two of those victories as her times of 26.73 seconds in the 200m and 1:00.87 in the 400m both earned her the top spot.
Chidera Osuoha grabbed the win in the 60m with a time of 8.19 seconds in the final while
Jaid Perry's time of 1:41.05 in the 600m resulted in a win of her own.
Esther Mensah rounded out the victories for the team as her distance of 51' 11.25" in the weight throw paced the field.
Concordia will look to carry momentum into the Mark Schuck Open & Multi on the campus of Minnesota State next weekend.
