Seven wins highlight 25 top-five performances at UST Invite

CSP men pick up 18 and women pick up seven inside top five

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams opened up 2024 with 25 top-five finishes and seven wins at the UST Invite on Friday afternoon on the campus of the University of St. Thomas.

CSP's men squad picked up 18 of the team's 25 top-five results and all seven wins as they finished with 26 finishes inside the top 10 on the day.

Five of the group's victories came on the track, highlighted by a dramatic finish in the 60m as Tarnue David just edged out teammate Jerry Chanzu by just 0.02 seconds to claim the top spot with time of 6.88 seconds. Payton Peterson added a win in the 400m with a time of 53.79 seconds while Emmett Faltesek took home first in the mile with a time of 4:16.23.

Drake Daniels picked up the final individual win on the track as he paced the field in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.35 seconds in the finals while the combination of Tarnue David, Tyce Smith, Vance Landa and Thomas Dietel won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:27.16.

In the throws, Cade Feist and Dan Otto each tallied a win and another top-five effort on the day as Feist won the shot put with a throw of 51' 4.5" while Otto's mark of 52' 2" was top in the weight throw. Otto took second in the shot put while Feist took fourth in the weight throw.

Concordia's women tallied 11 results in the top 10, including seven inside the top five.

Chidera Osuoha and Cadence Tanner combined for four of the team's seven top-five finishes as the duo picked up a pair each. Osuoha grabbed third in the 60m finals with a time of 8.08 seconds and matched that result in the 200m with a mark of 27.15 seconds. Tanner's time of 9.65 seconds in the 60m hurdles earned her second place while she took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17' 0.75".

Jaeden Sims gave the Golden Bears two in the top four in the 60m hurdles as she took fourth while Mehlayna Straub did the same in the 200m with a fifth-place finish. Erica Padilla matched the best result of the event on the women's side as she finished second in the 400m, wrapping it up in 1:04.27.

CSP heads south next Saturday as they continue action at the St. Olaf Invite.
