Concordia-St. Paul men take fifth place at Bemidji State Invite

Brandon Sperling shoots two-under on second day to tie for second place

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Golden Bear men's golf team opened their season placing fifth at the Bemidji State Invite. CSP finished with a total score of 595 (+27) to finish one stroke behind Bemidji State and two strokes ahead of Augustana. CSP shot a 299 in the first round and a 296 in the second round. 

Brandon Sperling was the top golfer for Concordia. Sperling shot 73 (+2) on the first day to tie for 12th and then came back and shot 70 (-1) in his second round to finish tied for second place. 

Trey Timm led the second team shooting a consistent 73 (+2) on both days to finish tied for ninth place. CSP's second team finished in ninth place in the team race.

On the first team, Thomas Gutzmer tied for 16th place. Gutzmer shot a 71 (E) on day one to end the day tied for fifth. His 78 (+7) on day two pushed his total score in the invitational to 149.

Hunter Robinson tied for 27th with an overall score of 152 (+10). Robinson shot a 79 (+8) battling the rain in the first round, but followed it up with a 73 (+2) second round. Ben Rasinski tied for 32nd shooting 153 (+11) over the two rounds. Tommy Marker rounded out the first team tying for 41st shooting a final score of 155 (+13).

On the second team, Chase Camilli tied for 27th place shooting a 152 (+10) over the two rounds. Justin Kohlman tied for 50th shooting 160 (+18). Sam Rudolph finished 56th with a score of 162 (+20). Camden O'Malley rounded out the team placing 57th shooting 163 (+21). 

The Golden Bears return to action next week on Sept. 18-19 at the Maverick/Golden Bear Fall Brawl at the Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, Wisconsin.
