ST. PAUL, Minn. – On a cool and windy Saturday at Sea Foam Stadium,
Eben Mundfrom broke the school record in the hammer throw as the Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams combined for six wins and 23 top-five finishes on the day.
Mundfrom flew past his own school record in the hammer as his mark of 194' 3" cleared his previous best of 191' 8" set last year as he hit an NCAA provo and moved into 21st in the nation in the event. His mark earned him the top spot in the event while teammate
CJ Picazo gave CSP two wins in the throws with a victory and a distance of 161' 5" in the discus.
On the track, CSP grabbed a pair of wins in the mid-distance as
Matthew Helser claimed the crown in the 800m with a time of 1:58.89 and
Emmett Faltesek won the 1500m with a time of 4:02.38. The quartet of
Calder Erick,
James Howard,
Tarnue David and
Taaron Rudzitis gave the men a fifth win overall as they wrapped up the 4x400m relay in 3:26.98.
The Golden Bears had several others near the top as
Tarnue David (200m),
Matt Krummel (3000m steeplechase),
CJ Picazo (shot put) and
Ted Carey (triple jump) all took second in their respective events.
On the women's side, the 4x400m relay team of
Karlina Zimmerman,
Jaid Perry,
Michaella Hartinger and
Sydney Jackson finished in 4:13.53 to pick up the victory.
Their effort was one of seven top-five finishes for the women as
Jaid Perry added a second place result in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:11.29 and
Ella Paaverud took second with a distance of 152' 0" in the hammer.
Delaney Butler took third in the 10k while
Courtney Mensah joined Perry in the top-five in the 400m hurdles with a fifth place finish.
Michaella Hartinger chipped in a fifth place result in the 800m as well.
The Golden Bears are set for a busy week as they travel to the Running on Hope Invitational at the University of Minnesota on Wednesday before heading to Simpson for the Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday. CSP will also compete at the Drake Relays from Thursday-Saturday as well as the Rider/Bolstorff Invite at Macalester on Saturday.
