MAUSTON, Wis. – Concordia St. Paul baseball (10-13, 6-4 NSIC) split games with the Minot State Beavers (16-8, 7-5 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at the Woodside Sports Complex after claiming a 7-2 victory in game one before dropping game two 3-0.
GAME 1: CSP 7, MISU 2 (Seven Innings)
Concordia kicked off the series with a strong showing in game one as they used a six-run third inning to power past Minot State, 7-2.
The Golden Bears provided seven hits that were highlighted by a home run from
Mason Nadolney, a triple from
Nick Thimsen and a double from
Bryce Nelson.
Korey Dahlberg (3-3) started on the bump for CSP in game one. The sophomore finished with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. He allowed eight hits, two earned runs and a walk in the winning effort.
Neither team could find rhythm in the opening two innings of play as no score was heading into the third inning of play.
The Golden Bears struck first as they lit up the scoreboard with six runs on six hits in the third inning to take a commanding lead over the Beavers. With two outs in the innings,
Bryce Nelson sparked momentum with a double down the left line that was followed by three consecutive hits highlighted by an RBI triple to right-center from
Nick Thimsen.
Mason Nadolney plated the final run of the game with his first home run as a Golden Bears that sailed over the fence in center field.
Minot State added a run in the fourth and the final run of the game in the sixth, but it was not enough as CSP would hang on for a 7-2 victory.
GAME 2: CSP 0, MISU 3
Concordia struggled to find the momentum that they had in game one as they dropped game two of the doubleheader, 3-0. The Beavers plated three runs off 10 hits in the contest to secure the victory.
Justin McGuigan recorded the first of four hits, while adding the lone stolen base for the Golden Bears as well. Thimsen added a single in the fourth while Nadolney added an infield hit in the seventh and Brohmer collected the final hit of the contest in the eighth inning.
Jonah Lewis (1-3) had a strong showing on the mound for CSP. The junior pitched 6.0 innings with five strikeouts, while allowing only two runs and a pair of walks in the loss.
Matt Sherman provided 3.0 innings with a strikeout, allowing one run and zero walks in the relief showing for the Golden Bears.
The Minot State starter, Bryant Bagshaw, shined for the Beavers after he recorded his fifth victory of the season on the mound. The senior pitched the 6.0 inning shutout with five strikeouts and only two hits.
UP NEXT: Concordia baseball will return to action tomorrow morning for the series finale against the Minot State Beavers at the Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston, Wisconsin. First pitch has been moved up 15 minutes for an 11:45 a.m. estimated start time.
