SERIES HISTORY: WSU 35, CSP 14
The Golden Bears and the Warriors will be meeting for the 51st and 52nd time in their series history. They first played each other back in 2000 and CSP went 2-3 against Winona State in their first five matchups. Concordia went through a stretch where they went 6-1 against the Warriors from 2004-2005. Winona State is currently on a 15-game winning streak against the Golden Bears.
ABOUT THE WARRIORS
Winona State is coached by Greg Jones, who enters his 23rd year with the Warriors. Under Jone's leadership, WSU has won five NSIC tournament championships, the most of any team in the conference. Last season the Warriors finished with a 41-17 record, losing in the conference championship to Augustana 13-0 in five innings. Winona State earned an at-large bid to the regional tournament, falling to eventual National Champion, Rogers State twice to end their season.
WSU is riding a six-game winning streak coming into the week, out-scoring their opponents 36-9 during that stretch. Their defense has led the team with Winona State holding the eighth best fielding percentage in the country (.975) and the third best team ERA in the NSIC (2.33). The Warriors lead the conference in walks (116) and have relied on small ball for offensive production. They currently have the second most sacrifice fly's (13) and sacrifice bunts (27) in the conference and are fourth in home runs (23).
Winona State is led at the plate and in the circle by Abbie Hlas. The junior is a two time All-NSIC and All-Central Region first team selection and has a second team All-American in 2022. This season she is tied for the most complete games with CSP pitcher Bryanna Olson with 12, while holding a 11-4 record with a 2.27 ERA. As a batter Hlas is third in the NSIC in doubles with eleven while batting to a .369 average with a .403 on-base percentage and .492 slugging percentage.
