Golden Bears fall twice to UMC on Sunday

CSP will return to action next weekend against Minot State

OMAHA, Neb. – Concordia St. Paul baseball (9-12, 5-3 NSIC) struggled to find momentum against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (17-9,6-3 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon as the Golden Bears dropped game one 5-0 and game two 10-0 at Westside High School.

GAME 1: CSP 0, UMC 5 (Seven Innings)
The Golden Bears struggled to find their offense in game one as they were shut out for the second straight game against the Golden Eagles.

After the two teams held each other scoreless in the opening two innings of play, the Golden Eagles struck first with a trio of runs in the third inning. They added their final two runs in the fifth to secure the 5-0 victory.

Jonah Lewis (1-2) received the nod from the pitching staff to start game one for the Golden Bears. The reigning NSIC Pitcher of the Week went 4.2 innings with six strikeouts, allowing fourth hits and two earned runs in the loss. Carter Schulte pitched 1.1 innings with a strikeout in relief for the Golden Bears.

UMC had a strong showing from starter Alex Koep who went the distance for the Golden Eagles. The junior lefty was in line for a no-hitter after holding the Golden Bears hitless for the opening six innings of play. However, in the seventh and final inning, Kal Brohmer and Bryce Nelson put CSP in the hit column.

GAME 2: CSP 0, UMC 10 (Seven Innings)
Concordia found themselves behind early in game two as the Golden Eagles posted three runs in the first inning, which was followed by five runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to claim the 10-0 win in seven innings.

Nick Thimsen led the Golden Bears with a pair of hits in four plate appearances in game two. Nelson, Mason Nadolney and Landon Behringer recorded the other three base hits for CSP.

Christian Morel (1-3) made the start for CSP in game two. Matt Sherman, Eric Lundell and Jack Nicklaus each appeared in relief for the Golden Bears.

The Golden Eagles had a strong performance from their starter, Jack Osowski, who pitched a 6.0 inning shutout in game two. The redshirt junior collected four strikeouts and allowed five hits in the win effort.

UP NEXT: CSP baseball will return to action next week against the Minot State Beavers. Locations and times for the three game series are to be determined due to weather conditions.
