RECAP OF THE WEEK
The Golden Bears finished last week 1-1 after falling on Thursday to the Wayne State Wildcats, 0-1, before bouncing back on homecoming Sunday with a dominant 4-1 victory over the Augustana Vikings.
Game One: CSP 0, WSC 1
Concordia controlled the pitch throughout the contest as they outshot the Wildcats 17-2 with seven of their shots on goal. However, Wayne State was able to capitalize on one of their shots to secure the one-goal victory.
Katie Anderson led the offensive attack for the Golden Bears. The San Diego native fired off a match-leading five shots with a pair of shots on goal.
Corynn Grabau contributed with a pair of shots on goal after contributing three shots of her own in the contest.
Junior
Jessi Jordan made her eighth start in goal this afternoon and collected a save. On the opposite side of the pitch was Hayden Wallace, who had a much busier match with seven saves.
Tori Miller and
Belle Abruzzo combined for 180 minutes on the pitch as they were the lone defenders for the Golden Bears to stay on the pitch for the game's entirety, while freshman
Sophia Haase added a career-best 85 minutes on the pitch.
In the first half, Concordia was able to frustrate the Wildcats offense by holding them to zero shots and controlling the possession time with a 59-41 advantage. Anderson and Grabau led the offensive attack with a trio of shots by each forward. In total, the Golden Bears fired off 12 shots, with five on goal.
In the second, Wayne State broke the gridlock at the 55-minute mark after Paige Pemberton struck the net with a right-footed shot from an assisted pass by Reagan Allen. From there, they held CSP to one shot on goal from
Sophie Pawlyshyn in the 60th minute to secure the 1-0 victory.
Game Two: CSP 4, AUGIE 1
Concordia soccer bested Augustana for the first time since 2012, with the second-most goals scored in a game during the series. Offense was not limited to the Golden Bears in the match as they collected 14 shots (eight on goal), while the Vikings were held to five (three on goal). In addition, CSP had a slight possession edge and both teams recorded four corner kick chances.
Anderson was remarkable on the pitch for the Golden Bears. The San Diego native had a career day after collecting her second career hat-trick and adding an assist, which ties her with Rachel Vitense (2004) for the third-most points in a single game with seven. Furthermore, she led all players with eight shots (four on goal) during her 76-minute stint on the pitch.
Grabau also had a fantastic showing for the Navy and Gold this afternoon. The junior forward collected her fourth goal and tallied her first assist of the season after firing off three shots with a pair of them on goal.
Sophia Haase added to her impressive freshman resume with a pair of assists for the Golden Bears.
Jordan received the nod for starting goalkeeper for the ninth time this season. The junior collected a pair of saves and faced only five shots due to a strong defensive performance that held the Vikings to five shots (three on goal). Miller and Abruzzo tallied 90 minutes on the pitch, while
Mackenzie Leibiger and
Brittany Bordson added quality showings to help anchor the defense.
Both teams were neck and neck in a first-half battle. CSP struck first with Anderson's first goal of the contest from an assisted pass from Haase in the fourth minute of action. However, Augie responded nine minutes later after Hope Korte drove to the goal from an assist from Lily Peterson before curving in the then equalizer. Neither team could establish momentum for the remainder of the half as they went to the break tied, 1-1.
In the second half, the Golden Bears took control of the match that was sparked after a cross from Anderson left the goalie in a bind before Grabau netted the game-winner in the 55th minute. The dynamic duo of Anderson and Grabau switched roles in the 68th minute as Anderson netted a well-placed pass from Grabau. Later in the match, Anderson claimed the hat-trick and Haase collected her second assist as Concordia held on to take the match, 4-1.

Anderson leads the team with 15 points this season following a seven-point performance that included a hat-trick and an assist against Augustana.
